spending time with my new friend....

The floor.

Seems I spend a lot of time here lately. I sit in my living room for a while at night, when I go to get up I fall. It's been going on for a while, just spending some quality time here. ;)

Funny thing is, it's always a slow fall. It has to be hilarious to see. One leg gives out and the other tries desperately to catch me but just can't.

Not hurt so far, just had to share a laugh. I'm doing all I can to be safe, so don't worry.

oh but that is worrisome.
have you talked to your dr about this? are you on any meds?

please don't take this just in stride. i hope there is something that can help you.

Man I typed a long response for you and it disappeared.

So short version... Yes my Dr knows. I take all kinds of precautions all day I just forget at night when I'm tired. Like I said it's a slow fall and there is nothing around me to get hurt on when this happens.

I just have to laugh sometimes or I might cry you know? Thank you for your concern though.

First you cry. From Canadian Crurches to a walker to the chair - no time off for good behavior :D I was watching too much TV, not getting to the toilet on time. I was so s.l.o.w. Me and the floor were buds, luckily I'd never gotten hurt. When it was time, I did it. Now I zoom, go places I hadn't for years. Yes, it sucks, impedes me in many ways but life did anyway. I don't need a nap anymore, I can still self-toilet (grab bars) and that's better. I'm on the deck, DH built me a patio with a long walkway. Can't be seen from the house on it, on the edge of woods. My dog delights in going therre, she runs ahead.

Of course I'd rather be walking, but no one is offering that choice. I do like not falling.

I don't particularly like the floor anymore, especially since it's all
slippery wood now and is hard to fall and sit on.. A trampoline
would be a lot more fun...and safer.:D

Beeeee careful, please, Nemsmom.

Put on some padded pants so you'll land on something soft. :o I hate falling.....it's the most helpless feeling there is. I hope you're being safe.

Sounds fun, ;) but not safer. I had a trampoline as a kid and had so many injuries myself, plus all the injuries other people got jumping on just our trampoline!

Hey I still have carpet where the chair is that I sit at night. At least there's padding there. :p

It is a helpless feeling. I usually don't let my husband know while I'm on the floor, I just wait to be able to get myself back up then tell him later. Unless I really need his help. Poor guy has back problems already though.

I guess I should figure out what kind of assistive device I should be using. My poor husband shouldn't have to pick me up off the floor.

I know I will have to deal with it, I just dread being treated the way I was when I had to use a walker for a while five years ago. People just assumed that because I was so young that I didn't need it.

Even employees at some stores treated me horrible.

Thank you everyone for your caring words and support!

oh yeah, right. any young healthy person wants to use a walker in public.....plllleeeeaaaase.

if people treated me badly in a store i A. wouldn't go there anymore and/or B. go complain to the manager.

i just got a really cute blue kitty cover for my walker. it covers the seat and the back support bar. got it from QVC. at least it's a conversation starter.

Yeah, I was 25, and I have always had a hard time standing up for myself. Starting to get better about that.

Since that happened I find myself to have my guard up constantly. Always expecting to get snide remarks from people any time we park in the handicap space that I have the permit for. The dirty looks I get are ridiculous! I'm afraid if anyone ever does say anything I may just go off on them

It must be the time of year for falls, cuz Ive been falling more than usual myself. Never knew just trying to crawl into bed I would miss that big old queen size mattress and hit the floor instead. I fell the other day and hit the bedroom door and a bookshelf before hitting the floor. Had to make sure I didn't just hit the floor. Told my db its a gravity check. Gotta find humor :)
