Custom made ear plug for noise

I am going to go Friday and get a mold made for custom ear plugs for noise suppression. this is done by an audiologist. then sent to a lab to have ear plugs manufactured and sent back. 2 week turn around time. they give a decibel rating of about 29 which is fantastic because it is true rather than promised. the price............ $150 . yeah. ouch.!!'''

noise bothers me so much I rage or leave. I wear gun ear muff which are uncomfortable and I look like a nut.

the good news... I know my son will be able to clone them for me and I will have many variations. some with some holes to allow some conversation noise in. some with ear buds in for I-tunes if I want.

you can youtube some diy with are not so great. for a laugh find the dentist that made his own. he over filled his ear cannel and when he removed the plug. he popped his ear drum. some things are left to experts.

good luck with it..

I use the yellow foam cylinders that also block about 29 to 31 dB. The ear plugs you are getting are commonly called musicians' ear plugs and have been discussed many times on NT. I can easily hear conversations with the yellow foam ear plugs but the background sounds and loud noises are mostly blocked.

nope different animal

these are custom molded to for individual fit. they are solid silicone. they are the one made for sleeping that allow the minimum of sound in for the maximum of noise reduction. they are not at all like the foam ones....

I did not say they were like the foam ones. The custom molded ear plugs are available with different inserts to block different levels of sound. My comment was that I get comparable rated sound reduction with the yellow foam ear plugs.

I'd love to be able to afford a pair of custom made ear plugs for the instant fit but expect I would end up losing them.

I had the fitted silicone musician's plugs with a filter to let sound in but at lower decibels. Were great until I lost one!

Foam ones don'tfit me well...I love the silicone ones that swimmers use (@ Target for those who live in the USA)
