Anesthetic injections in scalenes?
 

Anyone have any success with these that either lasted more than a day or that helped diminish the overall pain cycle in the longer term sense?

It's my understanding this isn't meant to be a long-term fix. When I had it done for diagnostic purposes, the relief only lasted a few days. But getting relief at all from the scalene block is often an indication that surgery will be helpful.

What about heating and massaging the scalenes? It's what we do with other muscles that bother us.

I had this done recently for diagnostic purposes only. The rebound pain afterwards was really bad. I even took a pain pill minutes after the injections, but it didn't help a bit.

They hit my nerve with the injections and it was all downwards and disabling for months after that. I stay away from injections and all for good reason.

My understanding was that if the injection worked -- you would only get roughly 4-6 hours of relief.

I also agre with stos2, these injections due carry risk. Please be careful who you chose to give them to you and make sure the doctor is using some type of guidance - i.e ultrasound guidance -- to view the space where they are putting the needle in.

Some practitioners inject Botox into the scalenes hoping for longer term relief.
