Joint Pain While Taking Avonex

I took my first injection yesterday and have had moderate knee pain that never occurred before. I had been off of Rebif for nearly a month and actually felt way better. Now I am in pain that is relieved by prescription Lortab. I also took Copaxone which worked great! I wouldn't have known I even had MS if not for the daily shots. However, I had horrible nausea that caused me to drink ensures everyday and my gastronomy doc told me to stop taking the drug unless I wanted to drink ensures tor the rest of my life. Since Avonex is my third drug choice by docs, I am concerned I will have the same horrible pain since they in the same drug family. Has anyone else had this side effect or other joint pain?

Hi ecarey, welcome!:)

I had to quit Avonex years ago, after 8 months on it. I hurt all over!!
That doesn't mean that it will effect you in the same way. Most find
that the sx diminish over time.

Good luck for you on Avonex and let us know how it's going.

I took Betaseron for 12 years then switched to Avonex because I had to only inject once a week.
I had horrible injection site reactions with Betaseron, but no problems at all with Avonex.

Its funny you mentioned knee pain because I had knee pain too. BUT...I had started walking for exercise and had to buy really good shoes. The knee pain went away......so for me, the knee pain was from bad shoes.
I have only been taking Avonex for a couple months. Spasticity is a big problem for me and I notice pain AROUND the joints which I attribute to tight muscles and tendons. ♥

Thank You

I am still in pain, but the meds help. I have had some numbness and muscle spasms in both legs now and was worried because I have never had problems with my legs before. I will probably see what my doc says tomorrow.
