NUCCA scam?
 

Went to a NUCCA chiropractor (Johanna Hoeller) in Seattle yesterday. She took some x-rays and showed that my atlas is out of alignment slightly in the saggital plane. Next comes the weirdest part. The adjustment consisted of her shaking her hands quickly and rapidly but lightly tap my neck. I could hardly feel anything... She claims that this will break the resistance and begin the healing. She's an experienced member of NUCCA who received some good Yelp reviews but this just feels a bit sketchy.

Sorry to hear this...I do not think that "shaking hands" is a standard chiropractic treatment.

I would try to find an other chiropractor and ask if they can do a request for the x-rays you already taken. This way you won't have to repay for them .* Just beware though that different techniques might necessitate different x-ray views.

As for finding a new chiropractor, go by refferal and experience rather than by technique . Upper cervical or nuccha techniques are not superior to any other technique. It is more a mather of mastering the evaluation, palpation and the corrective technique.

Also good empathie and comprehension is a must!

noo, that isn't the way my chiro adjusted my c/1c2...

Was there any mention any "energy healing" or such on the comments/reviews? Or her website??

I came across a kind of chiro treatment in my you tube searches- it started with a K - but they would "read" your vibes by waving their hands around you and then use a tapping machine to do adjusting.
I had my doubts on that one...

I didn't see any mention of her doing energy healing..

As shown in the videos , my DC used that little drop platform under my head and just did a very light quick press with the side of his hand to the correct place in my neck. It is a very gentle adjusting method..

Yea the treatment seemed Shaman-esque....

I went to a NUCCA chiro because I heard they're gentler on the spine. Are there doctors in the traditional Western medicine discipline who are upper cervical specialist? I really think I have some residual neck injury from whiplashing.

I think if you try another DC ask what the treatment consists of when you call ?

There may be spine specialist PTs in your area that might be mix of semi chiropractic & PT therapies. advanced studies and such..

Most MDs do not even mention the c1 c2 unless it is broken or obviously a major issue.

Just saw your video, yes she's the chiro I saw. But she barely touched my neck when she was doing the adjustment.

Did she do the adjustment with just one touch ? My chiro did many gentle touches with a rotation of his wrists after each touch. He explained that there is a joint in the wrist that pops when the proper force is applied. This popping is used as a way to measure the force of each touch. They push on the vertebra until the wrist pops then they need to reset the wrist for the next touch/manipulation. My NUCCA trained chiro would usually do 6 to 10 manipulations.

I did not continue with NUCCA due to cost limitations.

She sort of twisted her wrists above my neck and repeated tapped by neck using her wrist. Each tap was very quick, kind of chopping onions (much lighter though). I could barely feel it.

NUCCA chiros have a very different methodology so she may well have been doing an adjustment and you were just not aware of it. The often work more by gentle pressure adjustment than actual manipulation.

We have used NUCCA chiros for years with much benefit.
NUCCA is also pretty strict in licensing their practitioners.

I first went to Johanna Hoellers practice in 1990. Like you I was surprised at the adjustment. Previous that the visit with her, I had been seeing someone twice a week for years. I hadn't been getting better, so I decided to try something different with NUCCA. After the first adjustment, she said I would be tired that night. Holy Crap, I was tired that night. I guess my muscles had to adjust to their new positions. That week I went up skiing, and being an expert skier, I was seeing how fast I could now go without falling. It was getting a bit crazy though, no matter what I did, my new found balance kept me upright no matter what.

That year I was also installing cast iron piping for a seven story office building. Some of that was hanging 8" no hub cast iron pipe weighing 166 pounds overhead on ladders. The other plumbers weren't any help, and their backs hurt too much. My body was feeling fine with the new adjustment so I did all the heavy lifting and had them running copper.

So how well does NUCCA work for me? I'm 69 years old, and I carry toilets up and down flights of stairs, and install water heaters. I still have my season pass for skiing and do trips with my kids, nephews and grandkids. There is also lot's of hiking to do in the Northwest. I don't use any pain medication. I get maybe one adjustment a year. Does it seem like magic going to a NUCCA doctor? Well, kind of. I've sent family and friends in, at least twenty over the years and they love how they feel too. One year I had two friends in the same month that had been in auto accidents. After a couple months they asked my where I was going. They both made appointments and when they called me after the adjustment, I could tell by their voice over the phone, that they were sounding more clear. Which I get because one year I was rear ended and had whiplash. Fuzzy feeling until that first adjustment. Clear headed right afterwards.

This Summer I had my grandkids go in. The six year old with the limp? He's like a dancing maniac now. And yes, the limp is gone. I bought him a ski pass this year too. I need to make sure I will have skiing partners in the future.
