Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to Autism Moms - mothers of Autistic Children and Adults

I know what it is like to spend Holiday's wanting your children to be treated like everyone else, so you want to be invited to events and special occasions, but you also, sometimes, just don't want to go! You want others to understand, that your child can't handle all the stimulation, and you don't want to chase after him or her all day long - but you still want to be invited. Right?

I think the main thing we all wish others would do for us is just "Understand"!!! We can handle some things and some things we can't, but it hurts doesn't it. They assume things, and expect things, and it is so hard! I am an only child who is the mother of an only child, but I always said she was the equivalent of five!

We Autism Moms share a sisterhood - we understand each other. So I again want to wish you a Happy Mothers Day, and May God bless you today or whenever you read this. Where we are now?

My Daughter has a new house!!!

You may or may not know that my daughter is a adult with Autism. After many years of raising her and sleeping with one eye and ear open, the last few years I have been able to relax. She lives in a group home during the week and comes home almost every Saturday afternoon and stays until after dinner on Sunday.

When I say group home, it is not an "institution". Where she lives now she has three roommates with fairly high functioning Autism. They are more verbal than Sally, so it is a stretch for her. They each have their own room, and have a very young and energetic, capable, and caring staff. Did I say we were blessed.!!!

So this week, she made a move to a different house, bigger and better, actually better than mine.
It is owned by a company that has about 20 of them around the valley. I love it!!!!!

But I am so thankful, my daughter has come a long way. Praise be to God!

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! I did with my mother and my son, we went shopping and also went to lunch and had a lovely time. I am so blessed to have my son Jackie in my life. I know how lucky I am with him that he's the sweet little boy he is. Getting him through puberty though, that is not going to be easy. :p
