Avoiding supplements w magnesium stearate
 
I have been reading more and more about supplements that contain magnesium stearate and how people are trying to avoid this. I have noticed I take several supplements that use it.

So what is your opinion, avoid it, nope I'll take it, or don't care?

Not intending to speak for MrsD or anyone else, but in searching for other discussion/mentions of magnesium stearate, I found:

The amount of magnesium stearate in a vitamin pill is very small.

Compare that to Soluble cellulose sprinkled all over processed french fries and shredded cheese that we EAT in higher quantities!

I personally find FOOD additives far more problematic.

People do see magnesium stearate on vitamin labels and do think they are getting "magnesium" which they are NOT. Even my doctor mentioned this!
I am taking her some Morton's Lotion in fact on Monday when I go in for a check up and evaluation of my BP med.

Sorry the link didn't load, I dunno. It was just one of many discussions on the pros and cons of using this in supplements.

I have to say that it seems to annoy some people here when something is discussed that has already been discussed and told to go search the forum. I do get this but sometimes a fresh conversation of opinions is good too. People come and go, opinions change, information changes. I have changed my mind about things so that I may have said one thing in an old post but now feel differently.

Just saying.

No-one is obliged to search the forum, or take any other suggestions offered, if they don't wish to. Other people read these forums too, from regulars to new members to lurkers to visitors who find their way here via google, etc. Not everyone is aware there is an archive, much less what may be in it, and may be interested in what's been discussed/opined previously.

Well, I agree a small amount might be ok, but I don't really know how I fall on this issue but I guess why take it if I don't need it, if there are supplements that specifically avoid why not go that direction??

Most all of my supplements contain this, given I take them everyday, that can add up.

I wouldn't worry so much. You sound like I did a few years ago when I worked at a health food store and got sucked into the "everything will give you cancer " scaremongering business.
If it was really going to hurt you, it wouldn't be in practically every supplement. I just think that there are bigger fish to fry.
I've noticed that you have posted a number of threads on similar topics-its good to do research before taking something, of course-I just hope that it doesn't become an obsession. It can happen so easily. I was there once.
But by all means, avoid it and see if anything changes.
