Hole in Brain

Hi everyone, I have a question for my sister and I wasn't sure where to put it so here it is.

She had pain down her arm and leg on her left side and also her eye would not shut completely. SHe went to the docs who ordered a cat scan and she was told that she has a hole in her brain caused by high blood pressure and high cholesterol. This came from a neurologist she saw on Friday.

SHe was told the pain down her left side was from a virus and that she had nerve damage and it would not go away.

It sounds like so much more than that and I think that they are both connected somehow. I am really worried as our mom had a stroke 3 years ago this July and I saw how quickly she left us. I don't want the same to happen to her due to lack of care. If any of you could share your thoughts and info I would be very grateful. Thanks...Sue

Get a 2nd and even 3rd opinion ASAP! You do not want to mess around with something like that especially when stroke obviously runs in the family! And if that is how he said it - "A hole in the brain"... and did not elaborate any further, something is wrong with that man.

Also, your GUT is telling you something isn't right, so please make those appt's right away!

Best wishes to you and your sis :)

I agree wholeheartedly with Jena. Please have her get another opinion, and the sooner, the better. I would see a neurosurgeon, actually. They're much better schooled on matters related to brain structure and growths.

Good luck...

LIZARD :)

Yes, I agree with Lizard, a Neurosurgeon would be better...

Thanks Jenna and Liz. I am going to suggest a NS and that she sees one asap.

Have you ever heard of someone getting a hole in their brain from high blood pressure or high cholesterol? It just seemed too simplified to me. She does live in a small town so I have no idea of the quality of healthcare there.

I also can't see how the problems in her arm and her eye can't be related to her brain. I am really scared for her as she is a twin and her and my other sister would be lost without the other.

If anybody else has any ideas or suggestions I am all ears...or eyes lol :D Thanks...Sue

Sue, please try not to worry yourself too much right now. There could be so many reasons why, so that is why she needs to make an appt now, as there may be a waiting period.

Does she have a copy of the report? If not, my advice would be to get it asap, and always keep her films and reports in her possession. You can also post it here just to get some insight from other members. It may say something that could tell alot! I highly doubt that the report just says "hole", without any further identification, and he may just be one of those arrogant Neuros who treat new patients like idiots!

I mean, I have MS, and I have lesions on the brain, one of them being a 2 cm "black hole". That basically means that area is dead, and filled with fluid. This was from my onset of the disease in 1993. Now, I am not saying that is what she might have at all. I am just letting you know that lesions on the brain can be caused by many things, even migraines!

Oh, and yes, the brain has everything to do with the functioning of your limbs, muscles, etc...
