Ingrown toenail
 

I've never had one in my life, but now, guess what, I have one. DH has gotten them and he said it looked like one and to to the podiatrist. He doesn't want to touch it because he said I'll kick him in the face. Considering I don't want anybody touching my feet, I'm not eager to go out and get this done.

It's swollen a little bit around where the nail is pushing/growing in. It's not bad, yet. I have very little edema, thankfully. I'm guessing that the little bit I have is contributing to the nail issue.

What will a podiatrist do to help this? What do I need to tell him or her before getting worked on, other then the obvious.

I'm sorry you have this on top of your rsd. I would tell the podiatrist obviously about you rsd and bring literature on it in case he doesn't know what it is when he needs to fix your problem. I would also tell him about possible spread and maybe see if you pm dr or neurologist can help with this situation before it's fixed. I hope you feel better soon and he can get rid of you ingrown toenail without adding problems to your rsd. My thoughts are with you.

Hi again chaos, I just wanted to say too that you may want to get that taken care of soon so it doesn't get infected. That may aggravate your rsd. Just stubbing my toe causes rsd flares anymore. I'm not a dr and it's JMO, but I'm concerned for you and want to you to feel better. Take care.

Ouch chaos, ingrown nails are horrible at the best of times - I hope this settles down for you and doesn't get too nasty...

I would see a podiatrist ASAP - try to get a recommendation if you know anyone who's seen one - but don't even take your shoe off until you've explained about the CRPS to them! Make sure they agree to ask before they even touch your foot, and that they need to explain what they are going to do before coming anywhere near you. Take the good old CRPS fact sheet too, and ask them if they might have time to look at it before they see you again ;).

Take the vitamin C daily as well as a spread prevention tactic, although hopefully this can be resolved without it starting the symptoms up there too.

There is a permanent fix for this. I had it done. NOT bad at all. You get a shot to numb it, a bit of a sting. They make a tiny incision and clip out the offending piece of nail. Put on a band aid, and off you go. I was not even sore Chaos, it was a relief. All you have to do is put up with a tiny sting. xxginnie:hug:

I also have one and am scared to death to have it fixed. Ginnie - is this the normal fix they would do? I have whole body CRPS. thx

Hi, don't be afraid of the actual process of this ingrown toenail. However you need to find a physician that knows about CRPS before doing any kind of injection or surgery. This little slice of toenail out, corrects it for all time. It doesn't come back. I would seek an orthopedic surgeon, rather than a podiatrist in your case because of the CRPS. I would think they would know a lot more.
This shot is a nerve block to the toe that is the offending one. It really isn't bad to do, however I know you have to be careful with CRPS. Let me know what you plan to do. ginnie:grouphug:

Hi Chaos, I would check with a neurologist and pm dr too about the rsd and toenail procedure. You want to take all measures to keep rsd from spreading, but if you don't take care of toenail, it may become infected and that could cause rsd spread too. I know it's scary and I hope you feel better soon.
My dr told me yesterday that I have a heel splint and that I have to see a podiatrist about it. I've been having alot of pain, burning, redness and swelling my feet lately and thought it was due to accupunture I had, but had xrays done yesterday and they showed a bony splint in my heel of my left foot. I think that may have aggravated my rsd and fibromyalgia and caused rsd spread to both feet now. I have to see if the podiatrist wants to remove this splint surgically or not. The pain is pretty bad and I will also be checking with my pm dr next week and neurologist. I'm afraid too of more surgery, but if I leave it untreated and it gets worse, my rsd may get worse by spreading even more. It's never easy to decide what to do, but I'm having alot of pain and trouble walking because of it and the spread has already started, so I will probably have it removed if dr okays.
