Ruptured Brain Aneurysm Survivor
 

Hello. I ran across this website while reading Neurology Today at my neurologist appt. Looks like a wonderful site and I look forward to reading all the posts here. First of all, I am a survivor of a ruptured brain aneurysm (October 2002). My chances of survival were not very good but after 3 weeks in the hospital, most of it in ICU, I walked out. The doctors were able to coil the aneurysm and I went back 6 months later to have another aneurysm coiled. I have one small aneurysm that they are watching closely. I have not been able to return to work because of short term memory issues as well as cognitive issues and double vision. Hope all of you have a wonderful day! Jenny

Welcome Jen! Wow, that is an amazing intro. I am just sitting here w/my mouth open and no words.... *which, is a first for me*

My Dad had an abdominal aneurysm repaired and it was quite the ordeal....
He survived it, but passed away later of cancer. My Mom currently has an aortic abdominal aneurysm that they keep tabs on as it's not large enough to repair. Also, it's above her kidneys which is a tricky area. Sorry, I didn't mean to go on, but I was taken aback by your story.

I'm sorry it has left you w/some problems that affect your daily life.... I am pretty new here, but hopefully someone will come along w/some better words of advice for you. take care... You truly are a miracle....

I've been there...ruptured brain aneurysm in 2005 at an airport....I was in hospital for 6 months and had to re-learn everything!! Quite the experience....take care of yourself...enjoy life!! Effie

I have, sitting behind my right temple, an arteriovenous malformation. I don't think about it too much. I saw the head neurosurgeon at a hospital in my state who said the surgery for it would be just as great a risk as leaving it alone. So I do and just hope that I don't stroke out.

I know your original post was a long time ago, but I'm wondering how you are doing now. How small was the "small" aneurysm that they were watching closely? Also, what exactly does watching it closely mean? I have a 3 mm aneurysm, and they mentioned just watching it at first, but after my angiogram, they decided to recommend a consultation for coiling.
How is your recovery going? :)
