Hi mama,
I don't understand what kind of neuropathy you have. I don't think there is an IVG neuropathy. I do understand the question about using IVIG to treat neuropathy. IVIG is used to treat some kinds of neuropathy. This is from MedScape: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/730670_3 "Use of IVIG in Immune-mediated Neuropathies IVIG is a first-line agent for the treatment of many neurologic disorders including chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN), and GBS. " IVIG means getting ImmunoGlobulin G Intravenously. Immunoglobulin G is an antibody of your immune system. It is taken from the blood of other people, prepared, and put into your blood Intravenously. If you have an immune mediated neuropathy, this treatment can improve your symptoms. I have neuropathy, but the cause is currently unknown. All of the common causes have been ruled out for me. My neurologist is trying to find the cause and has ordered more blood tests, but I'm not optimistic about finding the cause or a cure. At this point I am just pleased that the neuropathy is NOT PROGRESSING. It has stayed the same for 3.5 years, since it was first diagnosed. It is profound in my legs and feet and very disabling. But not progressing. I also have an immune deficiency and have recently started Immunoglobulin G treatments every week. If by any chance the treatments help my neuropathy, I will be delighted. But I'm not counting on it. If your doctor thinks the treatments will help you, I suggest that you try them. They outrageously expensive, and I can only have my treatments because they are well covered by insurance. Good luck, mama. ElaineD |
