Post Concussion vs Migraine?
Friends,
I just got home from my visit with my pcp regarding my headaches and my incident yesterday where I saw stars. My doctor was pretty clear that my symptoms could easily be from my concussion or they could have been a migraine. I told her I have never had a migraine in my life (that I know of... I have had some pretty terrible tension headaches, but nothing where I saw stars, had nausea, etc until yesterday). I never got a definite diagnosis of having a concussion three weeks ago because today was my first doctor visit since then. I don't make much money right now and my insurance is horrible... in fact I didn't have insurance at all when it happened, and what I have now is a cheap, catastrophic plan to tide me over until I can afford real insurance. However, I am fairly confident that I did have a concussion, based on the fact that I remember very little from after the head injury, the next day I felt very groggy, fatigued, and had a headache from hell (think like a hangover times ten), and since then I have had off and on headaches, particularly when I get tired, which happens more easily than before. Is it possible that the concussion could have triggered a migraine problem? Or is it more likely that my post-concussion symptoms are just mimicking migraines? On some level, does it even matter which it is, if my main objective is treating the symptoms? |

That's what I was thinking, Mouse1. I've read numerous articles that say that, basically, all you can do post-concussion is treat the symptoms... that's what I meant when I asked if it mattered whether or not these are real migraines. If I have another episode like yesterday's, I'll call my doctor back and ask if she can prescribe me some kind of migraine medication.

This article helped me understand the Post-Traumatic Headaches more. Hope you both feel better! |
Thank you Postconcussion! That article makes a lot of sense... and it explains why my doctor was confused about my symptoms being so migraine-like... they very well could be migraines that are caused by my concussion!
Having this knowledge makes me rest a little easier... I may not have this down pat yet, but I do have hope now that I'm on the right track. Thanks again! |
