sharp bolts of pain?
 

I'm 3 months post injury and I'm noticing I'm experiencing two different types of head pain. The first is the typical pain, sort of all over, tight, heavy feeling from the pressure.

I'm also sometimes experiences sharp bolt type pain up the side of my head. Has anyone experienced this or no what it is? Where specifically did you have the sharp bolts of pain? Could it be caused by damaged nerve?

I'm also very dizzy almost all the time and have fainted a few times. I'm finally seeing a neurologist next week, but would love to hear what other people have experienced or been diagnosed with along with their pcs

I infrequently get bolts up the back of my head, it shoots upward to the top and is almost like an electric shock. I haven't made the connection before so I'm interested in the replies you get. Thanks for posting, hopefully someone will have an explanation.

thedude58, that is none other than Occipital Neuralgia. I have this and what you described is what I go through if I do too much physically. It first started after 4 months of my injury and continues to give me that shock.

When I carried my nephew around, it was at its worst, i felt the shocks and later pain. I sure paid for that. But, I probably won't get to hold my nephew ever again. So I wasn't too hard on myself. I saw a neuro for these types of pain. Cortisone shots were the primary treatment. I saw improvement and saw even more improvement with physical therapy.

Concussion headaches are kind of like tension headaches in a way, I remember the constant pressure that came with these. I was dizzy also for a while, then got over it after getting prisms for my vision. Dizziness can also be helped through vestibular therapy, which a lot of people have used for dizziness on this message board.

Nerve symptoms are common with PCS. I made it through 98% recovered with an above average cognitive test, I returned back to a somewhat good recovery. However, I still had the nerve issues in the back of the head. Neuralgia was the main concern, I later on was treated with injections and physical therapy. However, a neurologist would be best to talk to about this as I am not a doctor. My neuro was great with my nerve symptoms.

Well, that sounds familiar. I used to get those all the time -- I called them "lightning strikes", because they would shoot right up the side of my head and feel like I was being electrocuted. Couldn't get any help for them, till I started getting my neck adjusted (gently - very gently) by a chiro.

I still get them sometimes -- a fierce pain that doubles me over in agony and feels like I've been gripped by an electrified vice. But they pass.

And then I get on with the rest of my day.

Described them to a neuro in detail. He didn't seem concerned. Said it was probably stress. So for me, it's a case of "Oh well..." and move along.
