Ouch

New pain is always worrying....if that continues, it might be worth getting it checked out. Maybe keep your wrist warm and don't overuse it for now until you've had some reassurance?

Hope everything settles down quickly for you.

Bram.

So at 2am I went to emergency room, pain level way over in the wrist. Explained I have crps and what had happened nurse n doc tried to touch arm told them they can touch it but I need to know when n where, the jerks both reached to touch me without knowledge, seriously guess I asked too much? And the nurse did it while doing blood pressure haha, now I have hypertension? I was gonna show a fist! Any way so I sprained it, said they were gonna put splint on, I ask what kind? They said one that you pull on n Velcro, um yeah explained again I'm sensitive to touch n I swell a lot I don't think pulling on a splint is gonna work, I have many at home, could they do the half cast with n ace bandage so it's easier with swelling n sensitivities? Um no he says. So I'm sent home, told to ice it, elevate n wear my sling . What next?

That's HORRIBLE! This is exactly why it's so important to try and get more awareness out there and set protocols for how to handle CRPS patients. We should be able to go in to the ER with a non-CRPS issue (even if it is IN our CRPS areas) and have it handled appropriately and with the same attention that any other patient would get.

I'd suggest some sort of fabric brace that you can easily take on and off (because you don't want to immobilize too much...but if it is a sprain you will need to let it heal). And definitely no strenuous exercises for it while you wait for it to heal. No lifting or anything like that...only light, easy stretching.

Take care and I hope it feels better soon.

If you have RSD in your wrist ,the worst thing is ice..They say never ice RSD.I was told by my Doctor it can make it worse..Heat only..Good luck

Exactly so moosey.... Absolutely NO ICE anywhere near CRPS. Worst thing for it. Clearly they don't know much about it....like most of them  Going to the ER shouldnt be so risky for us!

Also, never let them put a BP cuff on an affected arm, or take bloods. Both can cause severe pain and spread.

Hope it feels better soon. When my wrist is really bad, I use an elasticated bandage for an hour at a time, it gives it a bit of support and warmth, and it's soft enough not to aggravate mine too much - I know yours might be very different, it's just a suggestion :)

Take care,
Bram.

Thanks everyone, I knew not to ice, I have an exos brace that they for casting as well, it's moldable forever, I need to get it re molded, I don't dare use my tens unit for a few days. This is a major setback for me, it sucks!
