Are these antibiotics ok?
Does anyone know if amoxicillan and rifaxamin are on the approved list or where I might find the approved list?
As always, thx! |
There's a list from the MG Association here:
http://mgakc.org/wp-content/uploads/...st-12-1-12.pdf Note there are degrees of contraindication and even though a drug makes this list, it still may be OK to take if your docs understand your situation. good luck.... |
gr8ful, thank you! huge help!

Just wanted to let u know the amoxicillin was HORRIBLE for me. My neuropathy went CRAZY and my ankle had some kind of spontaneous response (bone, tendon, who knows) but it was brutal.
More than likely there was some compounding effect from the long term steroids and abx so id classify this more as a pred problem than MG but who really knows anymore? Getting scanned this wk. Hoping it's not AVN from pred #discouraged |
I´ve been taking Augmentin several times while on high doses of pred without problem ...
Are you allergic to some degree to penicillin? Good luck to you, Maurice. |
Never had a problem w any abx in this family until the prednisone. There's a good bit of data on spontaneous tendon rupture from abx but most of it is associated w fluoroquinolones.
The orthopedist said any abx can do it but less likely w the penicillin. Long term pred is a known risk factor for spontaneous tendon rupture. "Classic risk factors for spontaneous rupture of tendons include steroid therapy, hypercholesterolemia, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, advanced age, long-term dialysis, and renal transplantation.[1,6-9] Since 1983, fluoroquinolones have also been reported to be associated with disruption of tendons.[7,9,10]" I am the poster child for bad pred side effects thou. |
