Getting ear wax removed
Hello
I am going to have some ear wax removed from my ears today. I have done this in the past, and I know it can be painful. I want to do this to see if there is any hearing loss in my left ear. I will tell the doctor to proceed carefully with my ears and explain my situation too. I suspect I might be able to hear the tinnitis more again, but not sure. Has anyone else out there had ear wax removed at the doctor office and did you have any bad effects afterward? Thanks for replying poetrymom |
I've had it done many times. Never been painful for me. The relief of the clogged ear is well worth any minor discomfort.

Removal of earwax in an experienced Physician's office should not be a painful experience at all, unless he/she rushes the procedure.
They put drops in to presoften the wax; then irrigate with either a manual irrigator or a mechanical suction/irrigator........ a very simple procedure entirely. These days there should not be a need to use any of the ear loops we had to use in the days-gone-by (which are now soft plastic rather than the hard metallic we had in the past).... which also had no need to be as painful as some practitioners made them out to be. Best Wishes............ :grouphug: |
I have never had my ears done by doctors. Either a nurse of med tech did it. It helps if they get the water solution to the right temperature to help soften the wax. I have never had any pretreatment prior to the irrigation.
After the first time, I would look forward to getting the wax washed out if my ear became clogged and DIY drops did not resolve it. |
I've had my ears cleaned by an ENT when experiencing discomfort. During my TBI I always had pressure in the ears which I couldn't stand, so getting rid of the wax is what lessened the sensations in there. It was instant and not painful. :) Hope this helps.
