Osteopath and CranioSacral Therapy

I went to an Osteopath today. Someone had suggested earlier that my

occipital bone was not in the right place and an Osteopath could help.

I learned that the Occipital bone protects the visual processing centre.

He confirmed that the Occipital bone was out of position and will work to

realign. It also affects balance.

I am not having a great deal of success with vision therapy and my prism

glasses and was hoping this will help. My ability to read longer than 20 minutes

and watch t.v. for about 2 hours has not changed.

Also I have ear issues with pain and pressure which he feels he can help.

Has anyone had any experience with an Osteopath or CranialSacral Therapy.

Keep going forward, I can't believe it has been 21 months Thank you

everyone, I get a great deal of comfort from reading this forum and seeing

how everyone is progressing.

Good luck! Keep us informed, I hope it works for your injury. My neurologist, Dr. James Young at Rush in Chicago is a big believer in Cranial Sacral work. I also recently read an article in the Washington Post on Occipital Nerve surgery that former professional soccer player Brianna Scurry has recently undergone. It may be interesting to you. Congratulations on continuing to look for ways to improve your condition! It can be tiring.

Cranial Sacral Therapy is controversial. Research shows that the diagnostics/reading of the skull plates is so inconsistent that ten OD's will rarely diagnose the same patient with similar diagnoses.

They do have great techniques with the spine. It is just the skull plates reads and adjustments that are a bit 'out there.'

I hope you have found a good OD.

My best to you.

I tried cranial sacral...the person was too odd and too gentle to be credible, for 100$!

Osteopaths are different in different countries. Canada is less regulated.....

Hi
Yes I had cranial work done a month after my concussion .
But had a bad reaction afterwards. I think it was too soon and my brain had enough to deal with, so I stopped after 5 sessions.
Now 17 months down the line I have decided to give it another try.
Well the improvement was immediate.
I suffered with tenderness behind my right ear all the time and if I was stressed it would lead to a headache across the back of my scull at the base of the neck and was quite painful.

Well since my recent visit to osteopath these have completely gone, and my well being has also improved much more possitive.
This is the same osteopath I used earlier.
We chatted about the different reaction and he said maybe it was to soon after my injury and my body was. It ready then.

I do hope it works for you, keep us informed.
Just goes to show we are all different and heal differently.

Will be thinking of you and hoping it gets better for you.
And I assure you it does get better but don't be in a hurry.
I thought I would be better in a few weeks now here I M 17 months, but I am pretty good now, living as much a normal life as I can. But like you can only do 2 hours tv and limited computer work. But hey that's so much better that a year ago !!!

Best wishes

9 Days since treatment and feeling awful

Tomorrow I am suppose to have my second cranial sacral therapy session and I am a bit hesitant.

In the 9 days since my treatment, I have had 2 days of migraines, increased dizziness, extreme balance issues, increase pressure in my head, increase tingling in my head and I sleep probably 18 hours a day.

I phone the osteopath and told him how I was feeling, he said this was normal and it shows that the adjustments are working.

Any Ideas?

I have had great luck with craniosacral therapy for my migraines. it doesn't feel like he is doing much and it won't stop a migraine, but it definitely decreases my frequency of headaches when I go regularly (once a week). I am on my 3rd round of treatments and each time my migraines become infrequent and less severe, but they return when I quit going. I have resolved that I will be going once a week for a very long time.

nine lives (Carole) is likely getting relief from her head aches due to an upper neck issue, not a skull plate issue. The tenderness behind the ears is usually the result of C-1 and C-2 inflammation that causes the muscles that connect behind the ear to spasm. Resolving C-1 and C-2 alignment can help with this inflammation. Icing after each treatment would be worthwhile. It may help the treatments to provide a longer benefit. It takes great discipline to heal weak C-1 and C-2 injuries. They are by design, very weak joints.

Learning and practicing good head/neck posture, especially when sleeping or napping will go a long way to helping this injury heal.

I hope you continue to get relief.

My best to you.

Four sessions so far

I have been to four sessions so far and after each session I sleep a lot the next day.

I must admit I do not feel as well as I have, I am more tired, more fatigued and more nausea.

However with this being said, my ear issue is lessened and I use to have pain at the back of my head when I laid down, this has decreased.

A week ago I started on a Wheat and Dairy free diet. This diet is suppose lessen inflammation and with the adjustment promote brain restoration. I notice an immediate less bloated feeling but nothing else I have noted so far.

I am going to pursue this regiment for another couple of months and see what happens.

I also will be looking into retesting my eyes as the vision therapy and prism glasses has not had much practical improvements.

The osteopath suggested although it is not his area of expertise that he had heard from a professor of his that the prism glasses will not work until the head bones are in the right position. Who knows???

I will let you know how things go.

Mark,

What would be your suggestion on how to improve head/neck posture? I seem to have an issue with It and was wondering how I might be able to work with it both during the day and when sleeping.
