Video games for recovery?

Hi again,

What do you guys think about playing video games for recovery? I know it is recommended to not read/play games, think too hard, do math etc after a concussion because it triggers and headaches and slows recovery. However, when I asked my neurologist, he says that stimulation is good for recovery when you can handle it. 4 months in, I can play video games without headaches coming on; however, my thinking is still noticeably impaired. I now know what it feels like to be a stupid person.

So, what do you guys think about this theory?

The symptoms from playing video games will likely not manifest until the next day. You want blood flow to the brain without stressing it. Play solitaire with real cards. The need to handle the cards will slow the pace of the game so your brain is not over-taxed. Stimulation is important for people who have been in a coma as a way to help the brain wake up. I don't think your neuro understands concussions.

Games

Hi there

I played a lot of scrabble on a tablet and it was calming for me. Keep in mind, no 2 injuries are the same.

Give Mark's suggestion a try too. Play some real cards with a real deck and a solo game.

All for now

I feel fine the next day after playing video games. I really am not in the mood to go to work so I have been staying home playing GT6 with my G27 *admin edit*. I guess I can keep playing if I get no bad symptoms?

I am not a fan of cards, I am a fan of GT6 though. Loving the new suspension and tire models.

I've played video games as part of my recovery. I didn't do so until I was comfortable to actually see bright light for an extended period of time. Even the noise sometimes was overwhelming.

But with time and incremental exposure, working up to longer sessions, video games help with cognitive function and stimulation. It was better than going outside at times. The fun factor was very important.

I was worried I couldn't drive and shift properly in the virtual world! ;)
