tongue,jaw,ear pain

appox. 6 weeks ago I had the rest of bottom teeth extracted (5 ) the day after extractions I had to go back for denture adjustments. That morning I had severe pain on right side of tongue, jaw, ear, could not swallow, talk, sip anything. Went to dentist for denture fitting, was in to much pain for that. Tongue movement caused serve, Intense pain.Dentures could not be adjusted. I was told it could be a hyper active nerve, was given a scrip for liquid pain killer due to, to much pain to swallow pills, was told to have a MRI. I was able to get the MRI that same day. I thought a tooth was abscessed, and was pulled regardless. MRI showed no abscess, no nerve damage. Xray before extractions showed no abscess, yet I was not able to swallow or eat. Pain killer did nothing, 2 weeks still intense pain in tongue, pain ran from tip side of tongue into jaw, then felt as if an ice pick was plunged into my right ear. Swallowing food was impossible, in 2 weeks I lost 7 lbs due to not being able to eat any thing that could not be just swallowed and had to endure intense pain to get small amount of food in me, I went to my MD one week later after getting MRI results, MRI was forwarded to him,by this time I was able to talk with not to much pain, only if I talked slow trying to not move tongue. he looked in my mouth poked here and there, asked if I felt pain as he was pressing where extractions were. I felt no pain with the poking, yet was in intense pain when I swallowed, Md Dr. said could be a pinched nerve and since I was talking a bit he said it appeared to be wearing off. Told me to take Tylenol for the pain. By this time weight loss was 10 lbs.I asked my Dr. could it be TMJ, he said no, you have no clicking in your jaw!!! 4 weeks still no bottom dentures due to pain, but no longer intense, severe, talk almost pain free, but not normal, in last 2 weeks I will get brief sharp pain along side of tongue and jaw as I try to swallow food. I have appt. to SEE if I can get dentures adjusted so I can eat properly and gain some weight back, but do not know if that intense pain will come back while dentures are being adjusted. I guess I will see this week when I go.So the question I am putting out to any member, has anyone experienced this, if so what action did you take. I am baffled by all this and not able to get an answer as to what it is, a "guess" at a "pinched nerve" is just that "a guess" I need a cure not a "guess"

Hi Baffled,

Were you having this intense pain before your teeth were extracted? Is it why your teeth were extracted?
