am I getting better? had a ok couple of days

it's been four weeks since my accident I've had all the usual symptoms feeling foggy dizzying still don't know what day it is I can't remember what happened yesterday or this morning unless I really think about it

on Saturday I woke up convinced it was April but at least I can remember that happened on Saturday

the pressure in my head moved down so its more at the bottom of my skull but it isn't as intense as it has been

is this a start to recovery or will it all start up again?

I know no one Can say exactly but are these good signs?

I'm asking be ause it used to be if I had a good day I would pay for it the next

Welcome

Hello Nevergone

Sorry to hear of your struggles.

4 weeks in is very early days for this journey. I can't speak to your particular symptoms, but I can tell you what I believe recovery feels and looks like for a brain injury.

First of all I hope you are getting plenty of rest, limiting screens and keeping yourself calm. This is really important. Also check out the vitamin and stickies thread to see what you can do with nutrition to help yourself.

As for good days or better days, those will come in time once your brain is better. But recovery from a brain injury is not like bone healing or getting over the flu. You won't just wake up one day and find that it is all over. Brain healing is slow and everyone has a different rate of recovery.

When you do feel better, then you can slowly add things back to your life. Try a very short walk, but don't walk to exhaustion. Don't try to run and lift weights or get the blood pumping all over your body and in your brain in hard way. You do want to move the blood, but gently.

When you can walk a distance for a few weeks, then add on a little more and see how that goes. If an activity makes you tired or overwhelmed, then stop it right away and hole up in your room for some brain rest.

I hope this helps you get a picture of what brain healing is like. I know it took me awhile to understand it, but these words helped me.

This is a marathon and not a race.

Be gentle with yourself and calm and I hope you have a support system around you. Keep asking questions here too and others will help you.

Sincerely,

Poetrymom

Having a good day does not mean you can return to regular activities. When you have two weeks of good days or without a specific symptom that was chronic, then you can consider that improvement.

It may be OK to do some simple activities on those good days. Any stress or pushing it and most of us pay the next day or even week.

Been there, done that, learned to accept that sometimes I need to plan on having a few bad days because I need to take on the stressful or over-stimulating day. We each have to learn our limits.

My best to you.

patience

Feeling more normal is worthy but there will be days. Rest and setting limits remains the rule. A regular touch stone for work is vital. Almost 2 years post concussion and know I remain changed.

symptoms

Hi never

The symptoms are telling you something. Eventually, you will learn to interpret what their meaning is for you.

My symptoms of light and sound sensitivity are back a bit so I am overdoing something and will have to limit my time here.

Hope you find your healing place within.

Sincerely,

poetrymom
