Questions about infusion center experiences
 

My Doctor finally understands that I prefer the IVIG infusion center which is covered by medicare to inhome which is not. I cant afford the procedure otherwise.
My wife is determined to drive me to the center but it will complicate things. She watches her Grand children during then day. She has to get one to and from school and watches the other all day.

I live about 25 miles from then infusion center. I am trying to convince her that I can drive myself. Can anyone share their experiences with me. Can I expect to be physically and mentally able to safely drive myself home after the treatment each day for 5 days.

Hard to say. Treatments are such an individual thing. You may or may not feel ok to drive afterward. A lot of people do it, though. I had my first one in the hospital, so no driving involved, and the second one at home, again no driving. Is there someone you can call on to provide transportation if you need it?

I drive myself both ways and always have but my first series of treatments was in the hospital. It will take several hours (especially for your first one) and your driver will either have to wait or come back later. As mentioned by limpy, some individuals have problems with their treatment, but if you hydrate a lot before you go and ask for pre-medications (usually benedryl and/or pain meds), you may be okay. I think I would have someone drive me the first time and see how it goes from there.

My first infusion/loading dose was also in the hospital...
Now, I always drive myself to and from the infusion center.. I have to infuse really slowly.. so 6 or 7 hours later the benadryl has mostly worn off.. I don't usally feel too bad until the next day. GOOD LUCK!
