Pursuing Neck Injury

These muscle spasms we're all experiencing are likely caused by some sort of neck/spinal injury. The last thing I' am going to do is numb my senses with muscle relaxants. I' am going to seek a couple more opinions on my cervical spine. I'd suggest this for most of you just be cautious of any joe shmoe chiropractor, figure out what you have first.

Have an amazing new year everybody.

Cheers to 2014!

Good post and to the point!

Was rear ended 9 months ago, injuries included neck injury, went to PT for months, the pain in my neck is severe now and it's also gone in to my back, pain every day 24/7

You are so right, got to be VERY cautious, waiting for an MRI to be done.

Dagma1,

Anyone with a suspected neck injury should get a medical doctor to examine you and get MRI done before any other profession ( chiro. and PT) begins with eval and treatment. I know the law allows for treatments to be done prior to a full work-up by a physician, but it is extremely risky to treat without an adequate diagnostic study and diagnosis from a physician first...even with these there might be something overlooked initially in some instances.

So, reduce your chance of poor recovery and see a physician ( Ortho. or Osteopath or Neurologist ) who can get more information than just a physical exam and subjective complaints. I was sent to PT just a day or two after my car accident for "neck strain" by my then lawyer, but I was hesitant to try anything, so I refused the Eval. I saw the neurologist the next day, and was instructed by him to postpone PT. due to my concussion.

I was later referred to an Osteopathic/ sports med MD who ordered an MRI and discovered 3 herniated cervical discs, information the PT did not have at the time of the scheduled eval. I did receive PT after this diagnosis was given, with some good results.

The more information you have, the better the treatment will go. Don't take the "quick fix"; it might end up costing you a lot more in the end.

Take care, M-i-m
