Should I start a new job?
I am six months post concussion. Migraines off and on, and sometimes fatigue and brain fog when I overdo it (e.g. Holidays, driving long distances). I'm on complete rest and seeing much improvement and feel good resting. Should I continue resting or go after a part time job, low key, at the library? I can afford to keep resting however am interested in this library job. There will likely be more jobs like it offered in the future, perhaps not as convenient as this job listed now. Your opinion is appreciated.

With the caveat that all brain injuries are different, I will say that when I started back to work part time it really helped my self-esteem and overall mood to feel useful again. I believe it also helped with improving my memory deficits I had at the time. I was then able to return to my full time position three months later.
Things to consider: How do you feel when around people? While the library is generally a relatively quiet environment there will be other employees and library patrons to deal with. If you are OK in relatively low key social interactions this job may be a good step forward for your recovery. Have you identified migraine triggers? If these occur regularly and without warning you may need some additional rest time. Otherwise this sounds like a good plan. Best to you in your continued recovery. |
