Work and Aspergers
Does anyone here have any advice for work and career advice and having an ASD? I'm pretty high functioning and get along with people well but still have some issues interacting and it seems to take me longer to learn a job related skill despite ease with most academics. My major in college is political science due to interest in law and difficulty In advanced mathematics. (College algebra, calc etc) still I worry about job prospects with this major.

Hi Dustin,
I'm writing as a parent of adult with Aspergers plus, currently finishing Science degree after doing IT degree. Not sure what's next. :) He's on track to end up in some type of research area in the medical field I imagine. He has an exceptional talent for learning foreign languages (among other things) without formal training so has put that to good use as a translator and tutor while he's doing the study. I think the key is to find your niche and you will I'm sure. Stick to what you do well. Think about the positive skills you have and focus on those. Remember that if you have an obsessive interest or if you excel in some particular area, then go for it. That's what people will be looking for in an employee. This first link is just details from Tony Attwood regarding a book that may be helpful to you... Asperger Syndrome Employment Workbook: An Employment Workbook for Adults with Aspergers Syndrome by Roger N Meyer, published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. http://www.tonyattwood.com.au/index....d=256:asperger..
