Feeling less back/hip pain after LP
 

I had my first LP yesterday and though the site is very sore my back and hip pain is pretty much gone. I have felt like my lower back and hips at my sacrum were in a vice being squeezed for 5+ years.

20 min after they took the fluid I was walking smoother, still slow and with my cane, but I could lift my legs easier and with less resistance. Today my lower back pain and hip pain are gone. I know it's probably only temporary but it has been pretty awesome.

Has anyone else felt better aside from the needle site after an LP?

I'm not aware of any reason a LP would help you to feel better but I am glad you do :)

The LP did not change my symptoms or how I felt.

Glad it's over, but, No KO. LP is not a treatment.

It doesn't make sense that an LP could help with that kind of pain, but MS is a strange disease. I don't think it changed anything in your hip, but I do believe it could mess with nerve connections (or disconnections) that are caused by the MS process. Remember the story about the lady who got struck by lightning and immediately went into complete remission? Sometimes MS scoffs at the logic of modern medicine.

Maybe you had a nerve compression syndrome and the local anesthetic allowed a spsam to release, thus also alleviating the nerve compression?

So my enjoyment of the less back/hip pain was short lived. Because I felt so good I over did it - tore the puncture site and got the nasty spinal headache. I spent 24 hours in bed with strict instructions to not exercise for a week.

Took Vicodin for several days and now back up and moving without the headache.

Started back exercising yesterday. Did a little but felt good. Today the hip and lower back pain are back and I could barely walk. Definitely a temporary effect that I did not get to fully enjoy. :mad:
