Trench Foot Neuropathy?
 

Is there such evidence that Trench Foot could have caused the nerve damage that I am now experiencing? The time that I first began my symptoms was also a time where my feet had been exposed to damage caused by having wet feet for a long period while coaching soccer one summer.

The problem was that the fields were watered every morning heavily and we as coaches would still need to run our sessions in these conditions. Our feet would get very wet, be wet for hours then dry eventually before the end of the three hour session. This went on for at least three weeks.

It was then that I had this terrible athletes foot- like condition. My feet looked terrible for a month or two after this. My problems in both feet have progressed ever since.

Is there any test or information that can help me on this one. The Dr's - Neurologists have diagnosed me with:

Mild Motor and Sensory Axonal Polyneuropathy.

I would find out what chemicals are put on that field. It is very possible you have a chemical toxicity to either pesticides or fertilizers/fungicides.

I had a patient once who had a serious asthma attack at a soccer field.(she ended up in the ER with it).
She had never had asthma before.

Also in our area, a baseball field was contaminated by arsenic from a nearby pressure treated wood playground. The arsenic seeped into the ground and when it was dry out the dust was inhaled over time, and several people poisoned, that way. Since arsenic occurs in well water and other places naturally (even in food)...it could be your culprit. Heavy metal testing may reveal it.
It causes PN in the hands and feet. Ant poisons commonly have arsenic and it also is a criminal weapon, in the hands of nefarious people.

There have been reports over the past years about golfers who were affected by the chemicals on the golf courses.

This is very interesting indeed. I have been getting the most strange alergic reactions when I get something from the fields in my eyes. They swell up immidiayely and I have to take a couple of Benedrol to calm it down. Has happened 3 or 4 times in a year. I wash my hands all the time.

When you say heavy metal test. Do you mean blood test? Sounds like I need to listen to some Heavey Metal :)

I am due for blood test next Wed. Can I ask for a particular test?

Can this type of nerve damage be treated?

If you score high in heavy metals, some may be removed by chelation treatment. Best to go to an integrative doctor or environmental doctor. You can find them on the net.
heavy metals include: lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury and perhaps a few others depending.

There are blood tests, hair evaluations (only some labs are reliable with this hair test) and urine tests.

Now is the time to find the maintenance people and examine the stuff they put down. It might be fungicides or pesticides, which are different from heavy metals. Some chemicals contain heavy metals in addition to other additives depending on what is being done. The type most often mentioned in PN papers is organophosphates. Find out what is being used, and Google that product to find what is in it.
