Pain vs. Numbness...in that order
I'm curious what is worse when it comes to nerves...pain or numbness?
Also, if there's anything meaningful when a reduction in pain is followed by numbness? Does this mean nerves are starting to awaken? Or is it getting worse? After two weeks of some serious tissue work on pec minor and subclavious and some strengthening of my rhomboids, pain levels have decreased quite a bit. Maybe cut in half. On the flip side, numbness on my index finger appeared with periodic tingles across the whole hand. I have no idea if I'm just spinning my wheels here, getting worse, or getting better. KY |
For my son, numbness replaces the pain when he overdoes it.

Numbness is worse than pain. After having my collarbone pinned after the accident, my shoulder was numb for a long time. Then it started to get feeling back, and settled on hurting all the time. Numbness is better. Since last summer I have had my radial nerve inflamed from radial tunnel syndrome. Makes my hand and fingers hurt so badly. Numbness is better. you just have to learn to be more careful and keep watch that you don't hurt the numb part (because, of course, you don't feel the pain when you do.)
I'd trade pain for numbness anyday. Numbness feels more disturbing, because it just isn't right (pain is a normal feeling, even tho unpleasant), but it's easier to live and sleep with. |
Yes, no doubt I would trade pain for numbness. Pain = an unrelenting attack every waking moment. And no sleep. Numbness = a little disturbing.
What I'm wondering is if one follows the other as you either worsen or improve. Sounds like it could be either way. Quote:

I would rather have numbness than pain in a heartbeat (I have both 24/7).
I've had both symptoms ever since I was in a car accident May 2012. so i'm not quite sure if it's starting to awaken or getting worse. I think it also depends if there are any other symptoms. By the sounds of it, your body is starting to heal which is fantastic!!!! so I'd say the nerves are awakening. Quote:
