3 days til surgery...

Hi. I haven't posted on here since I had my trial in December...I am getting a Boston Scientific Spectra this Thursday. I have horrible hip, thigh and SI pain...24/7 for as long as I can remember...

I've been trying to get things together to make my recovery easier but would love suggestions...so far I have a grabber, some freezer ice packs for incision sites, a wedge pillow for my bed, we bought a recliner, I borrowed a shower stool...I'm sure there are things people wish they'd done BEFORE their surgery to make life easier afterwards...if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to have them!

Thanks!
Nicole

Post surgery

Follow Mark56 BLaST really limit bending, lifting, straining, stretching or reaching out.
Have a stock of pre cooked or ready made meals in the freezer.
Don't stack or unpack the dishwasher, hand wash dishes as you go.
Move milk from bottom fridge door to higher point so as to not reach down.
Get someone else to clean house, load and unload washing machine, hang washing or put in clothes dryer and fold up on removal, strip beds and remake etc etc.
Have a friend or family member wash your hair if you need it washing, don't be tempted to do it yourself.
Remove anything like rugs or mats on the floor that could cause you to trip.
For the next 8 weeks every time you move imagine you are walking on ice and you want to take all precaution not to slip or fall. It will make you move slower and with emphasis on being careful.
Mark off on your calendar when you can begin to do things so you are not tempted to throw bales of hay, prepare celebratory meals, drive long distances, do the weekly shopping or get carried away with exercise. Just because you feel good and look good doesn't mean it's all healed up inside....
Most of all, take your time and enjoy the recovery and journey back to living a full life.:p

Hi Nicole!

Ok, I'm the idiot who threw the bale of hay.

Wow Nicole, you've already got a great plan going! And then Pam drops a Bombshell of good suggestions! Awesome.

Here's Mark56's detailed post of what BLAST is:

Get some rest, try not to 'worry'. We'll be here waiting for an update when you are up for it.

....and yes, I had to go back for a revision due to a pulled lead.

Caring!
Rae

And BLAST

Is not fluff. It is a real coping skill. You may find it saves you some of that post surgical temptation to do something which is potentially injurious to the work done on you.

May all be well. M56 :)
