taking supplements
I was wondering how most of you take your supplements... since there are a number of them to be taken and others as well one may take. Are there certain times of the day and combinations that work better together? The other night I loaded up with several at a time and my tummy was not happy

I take my thyroid meds at 7am.
Around 10 am I eat and take D3, magnesium, zyflamend, benfotiamine, bilberry, potassium and probiotic. About 2 hours after eating I take my VitE and Selenium. About 1 hours later I take VitC and Rlipoic Acid and drink a glass of chlorophyll. Around 4 or 5pm I eat dinner and take flaxseed and fish oil. About 1 hour after eating I take zylfmend and benfotiamine. At 8 pm I take thyroid meds. B12 is taken either at night or in morning after thryroid pills and before eating. I also take NAC before bed but not every day, I go a week on then off. I will be adding curcumin somewhere in there this week. If I go out I take with me or if I forget I don't worry about it. I also rub epsom lotion at night on wrists. |

But seriously, this comes up from time to time. Like some other nuggets, some of the info can be mined from the archives & sticky threads. I thought about making up a chart for the group sometime that could be posted in the 'supplements' thread, but there are too many variables—it's not a 'one-size-fits-all' proposition, especially if/when prescriptions are involved. I made a project of it one day—made up a list of our supps, went through the threads, and made up a chart. That was the hard part. Now DW & I sit down for 15 min one evening a week and fill our respective pill organizers for the week. Easy-peasy. ;) Doc |
Most supplements can be take with food.
B12 is an exception. It requires an empty GI tract for absorption. Oils should be taken with food. Magnesium will be less Laxative with food. You can always look up things when in doubt. The internet is handy for that. Printed labels on containers from manufacturers Can have erroneous directions.. So be aware of that. |
supplements
Thanks Stacy for being so specific this is kind of what I was looking for
even if you take at meals you still are putting several tablets down at once the other night I took Excedrin close to taking about 5 supplements and it did not stay down so the reason I emailed I have a slew of supplements |
Sure! Sometimes it helps to see what someone else is doing just to get ideas.
The only problem I have is sometimes with fish oil causes the big "D" so that is why I take it with flaxseed now. The thing I make sure is no supplements with flaxseed, no food with B12 or thyroid. Everything else is good with food. I have no problem throwing down a handful of 5 or 6 pills in one swallow, it just doesn't bother me. I do wonder about my probiotic some say take with food some say empty stomach and I haven't decided which is best. |
