Life after trauma - being present

A friend sent me the New York Times article on this blog post. Even if you are not religious, it is worth a read. So many people here have written about feeling abandoned by people they thought would be there for them.

That happened to me. This blog post helped me to understand that what I really needed was 'presence'.

It is also a good read for those of us who have friends dealing with trauma. Be there for them.

good article

Thanks for this Mokey

I could reread it again. And again. And again. There is a lot in there. It made good sense to me.

I try to find the good in every situation and just BE in the DAY. I was much better at this when my children were babies (they are now going on 18 and 20) But for me, being around those babies was being in the moment.

Again, thanks for this read.

Take care,

Thanks for this, Mokey!

It's been a hard plateau for me these past few months. Vision therapy continues slowly and painfully. I can see some improvements, but still the reading and comprehension is very low.

The nortryptiline I've been taking has severe side effects (lactation! at my age!)--so I may need to taper off which leads to more migraines....

Anyhow-the article was a nice reminder on the pain and slow progress.

Live each day and soon we will feel alive.

I hope your progress continues!

Berkeley brain: sorry to hear that progress seems to have plateaued. I had a very bad spell a few months ago and now I feel much better. Still have a very dull life - but am teaching a course, which is great. Hard work, headaches. But nice to get back to a bit of my former self.

I think we all just have to hang in there. Sometimes it is so hard to notice any improvements. And then there are the setbacks!

Sorry that the meds are not working well. Strange side effects! What does of Nortryp. are you on? I have 10mgs per night. Seems to have given me less headaches....not sure yet.

I am trying to kick up my vision therapy to make more progress. the vision is a huge deficit - if it is not working, we feel very terrible! But it is hard, isn't it? Doing vision therapy brings on pain. Yuck. Hang in there. I think it is worthwhile!

Thanks for posting this article. It's really quite insightful and brilliant.

I'm forwarding it on to a friend of mine who works with veterans who have suffered TBI's and who have PCS and PTSD.
