I'm off to see the wizzard...

I go see a new PM doc today. Any warm thoughts would be appreciated. I so hope he can/will help me. I've looked him up online and I was pretty unenthusiastic BUT my new Neuro doc (that I like so far) has recommended him AND as I was filling out paper work today, well I'll be damned, RSD/CRPS was listed as a condition... Holy Sheep! Okay... maybe there's hope!

Hahaaha! That's a good start! Good luck with the new guy!

Really hoping your appointment goes well and that there is good communication and a solid sense of trust in the sense of care from this doctor and all the staff.

Hope you appointment went well! Keep us posted.

... because, because, because... because of the wonderful things he does. lol

:) Oh wow... I'm pretty excited! Combined these docs have some 45 Pt's with CRPS. And to think they've been just 45 minutes from me this whole time! In jest he said "your special, but around here, your not that special" (special meaning rare). I was like; cool, I don't want to be special.

So we're going to try a sympathetic block on 03/11/14. If I don't pass out from fear, perhaps this will go good. If it doesn't work (I've had CRPS for a long time now), then we'll move on to other things. I've never had a block before. Can you believe that? I have ran in fear before now. Please remember that all this started in my back, so to invite more of anything into that area is frightening as can be to me.

We discussed a SCS. That freaks me out too but I may have to try it. It's not fear of spread with this or the blocks, it's fear of anything to do with my spine and aggravating the CRPS. I think too that it's that I can't see what's going on, so my mind takes over. :o

Anyhow, to my surprise I liked him a LOT!! He is VERY knowledgeable, and seems ready to help. I think I'm on the right track for now. He said "Vrae, I can't fix you, but maybe we can get some of your function and life back". Yes! That would be FANTASTIC! Let's do that! My husband said that he was so happy that he thought he would cry while in the office. Poor guy. Gosh I do love my husband, and I'm a lucky girl in how much he loves me.

New drug for me: I told him Soma really wasn't doing much any more for the severe muscle spasms, so he has started me on Tizanidine 4mg 4xday. I have not tried or heard of it. He said if this doesn't work he had something else (I can't remember the name). I can't do Baclofen. It was a horrible experience for me.

I got some lidocaine patches, YEAH! I got these and the drug above filled tonight. I can put up to 3 patches at a time on, so I took the three, cut them in half, and have them stuck all over me lol :D ahhh. I wish I could just dip myself in it!

All in all it was a sweet day

Thank you for the kind thoughts and words, I really do appreciate it! Happy Valentines Day!

Oh Vrae,

I am so happy for you - what a relief for you to have found one of "the good ones"! It is about darn time for some good news in your battle with this!

I do hope the patches give you some relief and that the block doesn't cause you any additional long lasting pain.

One giant step forward YIPPEE YAHOO..

Nanc 02-15-2014 12:39 AM

WOOHOO!!!! So happy for you Vrae!! This is such fantastic news and a break that you definitely needed!!! :yahoo:

I hope the block and meds work for you! I have had LOTS of blocks, you will be fine. I prefer not to have sedation with them because it is just another needle and more groggy feeling. I figure the uncomfortableness of getting the block is only temporary and nothing like the pain of flares I have...again, you will be fine!!

Vrae, I am so happy for you! It's wonderful to hear reports of something going right! Keep up posted!

So happy for you!!
I think I'm lucky to have the P.M. Dr. I have as well.

I was so very afraid of the nerve blocks in the beginning as well.
Now, I think I'm going on number 22.
What type of block are they proposing? Ask what type of guidance
they use too.
I haven't been given the option of patches, what is that like?
