Vertigo Relief

Hi there

I wrote last week about my vertigo, and on Friday I heard about a drug that may have helped. It's a travel sickness drug, Stugeron, which is Cinnarizine, a drug derivative of piperazine. They are 25mg, and I tried taking one on Friday, and two on Saturday, but it must say, I didn't feel any difference with them. Maybe because my double vision and vertigo has been caused by my brain injury, I will just have to put up with it.

If there is anyone out there who has had a similar problem with vertigo, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you

I took over the counter Bonine or Meclazine 25 mg. at first it is a motion sickness pill. The doctor also perscribed it to me, but the chewables OTC were cheaper and convenient. Dont take them unless you have to though as they will quit helping if you take them daily. I am on a different prescription medication now.

Hi there

I got relief from the dizzies from vestibular therapy. I got a referral from a neuro for this.

Just hoping this might help you.

All for now

Ok. Thanks so much. When I get back to UK I will speak to my neurologist about the pills.

As I am in South Africa at the moment, I doubt they are available here.

Do you know what their composition is.

Thanks. Debs

the medicine is called Meclizine and it is found in several motion sickness medicines. I agree also with the Vestibular Therapy, that is a long term solution.

I personally did not make it through the whole program my symptoms were too bad and that prompted them to send me to an ear/balance specialist who found I have damage in my inner ear causing the continued problem. But the therapy got my balance under better control and helped me to be able to move around more before I get sick.

I had a lot of problems with the room spinning when I went to lie down. Tried a few different medicines but what really worked for me was having the "Epley manoeuvre".

Simple non evasive treatment and the results were immediate and over a couple of weeks improved by 80%. Had a repeat of the procedure and that cured the final 20%.

I still get a bit wobbly now and then but that is down to vision problems

I had various ENT tests done that revealed some vestibular dysfunction on one side. A possible case of BPPV (epley maneuver helps with this) was also noted.

I did months of Vestibular therapy. Epley manuevers/exercises didn't really help. It wasn't until the migraines also kicked in with vertigo that I saw specialists at UC San Francisco.

Their ENT/Neurology department theorized that the vestibular issues were due to an "unhappy" brain not processing vestibular information correctly and thus triggering vertigo spells.

They prescribed nortriptyline to help with migraines and increase my threshold that often triggered vertigo and/or migraines.

The vertigo has stopped, but I'm experiencing side effects with the nori.

You will have to advocate for yourself and push for a specific diagnosis to the vertigo. It's hard because PCS seems to have a lot of different related issues as well!

Good luck!

HOpe you are feeling better now! If you are still having memory problems ect you may need more help than you have had.
