tense muscles
Do your muscles stay tight all of the time? I have had muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders for years. I would end up at hospital so I started learning to massage my neck and shoulders but since before Christmas(before hospital incident) my muscles stays tense everywhere. I am using muscle cream and massagers, sleeping with heating pad. I actually cut it off before I go to sleep. I have problems picking up my legs because they are so heavy and tense and then it becomes painful. I let my sister feel the back of my legs and they are like rocks. I have a back massager and bought me a neck massager and it helps but goes right back tense if I use that muscle, with regular everyday use. Anybody else have this and any suggestions? When I use to exercise, I would gain weight because my muscles bulked up fast and when I put on my clothes, it would like incredible hulk was wearing my clothes. Could it be that I just have severe muscle spasms.

That honestly sounds like spasticity to me. Spasticity is not part of MG. MG people have the opposite issue, poor (mushy) muscle tone. We may have some strained muscles and small spasms at times as stronger muscles try to compensate for weaker ones, but the widespread, severe spasticity you report is not typical of MG.

ok then maybe I do not have mg..now I have to figure out why I am having this. Thanks for your reply. I do not care what it is I just want help. It is sounding more and more like MS.I thought that spasticity was when your leg would contract but not release. Oh I do not have mushy muscle tone. I have tight muscle tone. So tight that my legs are weak because they too heavy to lift.

Have you had any positive tests done for mg? Too much muscle tone is definitely not a problem with mg or Lems except for maybe in scattered areas due to weak unbalanced muscles. It's more like jello muscles.
There is also a disease called stiff person syndrome that has tight painful muscles and is sometimes confused with mg. Hope you get it figured out soon. |

I also have "floppy weak" muscles with my illness, like jello. How are your reflexes? what are they doing to further work you up at this point? Have you had a lumbar puncture, have you had the blood tests for stiff man syndrome? Do you have increased muscle mass, no change or decreased? (I know some disorders will give you increased muslce mass- i think stiff man does).
Hoping you find some good answers and treatment soon! |
I sometimes have a kind of tight drawing feeling in my face and in my neck, but it is usually when I am otherwise weak and I think these muscles are just trying to compensate for the ones not working at the time.
When my legs are weak, like when they gave me IV Benadryl, I could not lift them off the bed, but they were not tight at all. Just extremely heavy. |
