Having ant and post lumbar L5-S1 fusion

Hello Everyone!
I am new to this site and need some advice,
I am having the lmbar fusion on March 12, 2014 and I am scared to death! I was injured on the job. First off my symptoms range from severe stiffness, vise like pain and squeezing to my back at my bra line and waist, difficulty loading dishwasher, picking things off the ground, bending forward hurts, but coming back is worst, at times just brushing teeth or trying to put a rubber and in hair hurts and can cause a shooting pain that damn nears knocks me to the floor, stooping and just trying to stand is difficult to to the weakness or atrophy in my legs. I walk everyday to help myself and the pain meds don't do a thing. I am exhausted everyday and pretty much fall asleep from pure exhaustion from tossing and turning in bed.
I do not have numbness or tingling in my legs or feet which is a blessing. At time is feel like someone is taking a bunch or heated pins and stabbing my lower back.
I would like to hear from anyone about the anterior and posterior lumbar fusion. How long are you off for when working, pre or post op advice etc would be wonderful.
