is continuous fever dangerous with MG
my husband was in hospital and has been diagnosed with bacterial and viral infections... he was sent home with a fever... he has run fever around 102 for 6 straight days... i am alternating tylenol and ibuprofen... he will sweat it out, and as soon as the medicine wears off, the fever is back... he has extreme weakness. the neurologist says if he starts having trouble swallowing or breathing or his voice changes, take him to hospital a.s.a.p..... DUH. has anyone had a fever for that long and does it affect your myasthenia? thanks

Any sort of stress will make the myasthenia get worse.

What part of the body is the infection affecting? Upper respiratory or lower? Is he on immunosuppresants as well? Did they do a CBC - complete blood count to see what his WBC, white blood count is?
If he is on immunosuppressants, he may not to be able to fight the infection as well as before MG. Did they give you antibiotics? Are they on the list of approved to be used with MG? If he is on immunosupprssants and his WBC cannot fight the infection, he may need an anti-viral as well and a stronger antibiotic. In my opinion, that fever is too high for too long. You should consult with both your primary care physician and neurologist. Please give them a call. Hope he is better soon, Kathie |
Anytime I get sick with anything, or if I'm under stress or my immune system is stimulated my symptoms can dramatically worsen... it can take days to recover.. or IVIG
