MG with MS symptoms

Hi All,
I'm new here and I puzzled as to what' happening to my body, as my neurologist think my case is " interesting adn something is wrong". I have had negative antibody testing for Myasthenis gravis but has textbook symptoms includes Ptosis worsening with extreme fatigue and exertion, drunk like feeling, generalized muscle weakness and only sleep and rest help. Long history of shortness of breath with 2 abnormal pulmonary function test and one normal. Cause unknown. My condition does not appear to be going away or getting better that my neurologist is starting me on Mestinon after Optos arteriogram of the eyes to rule out Von hipple Lindau due to right sided weakness from face to feet which has impaired my gait significantly especially with exertion. I'm going to PT without a significant change in how I walk .

Also with history of proximal Myopathy with cause unknown with extensive lab test but abnormal EMG and physical exam ( hypereflexes in leg and balance issues). The gait is more worsen with exertion and fatigue. I to use a cane to walk and I'm 43 years old. Do any of you with MG have these symptoms. I have history of enlarged optic disc. I've also been diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy due to abnormal QSART. Can one have both MG and MS and is the right sided weakness more likely with MS or MG. MRI without contrast ( allergic to contrast) reveal white matter changes. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Sorry you are going through all this. Did they do a single fiber emg to confirm MG? I also have a large optic nerve on one side. Before my MG diagnosis, I was diagnosed with optic neuritis, which is usually the first step in an MS diagnosis.

I am antibody negative, but diagnosed with MG due to abnormal single fiber EMG. I respond well to mestinon and prednisone. Neuro and rheumy both think there is more than 1 thing going on, but both think I do have MG. I have other symptoms that do not fit typical MG such as abnormal sensation in limbs, limbs going numb, rashes (livedo reticularis), autonomic involvement (diarrhea, tinnitis and dizziness) and fever and sweats.

I think you can have both MS and MG, both are autoimmune. There is a woman who post videos on youtube with both MS and MG.

Hope you get some relief and a diagnosis soon

Kathie,
Thanks for your response. Your sumptoms are quite interesting and sound like yu may have small iber neuropathy or some for of dysautonomia which goes along with folks like us with unusual stuff. I had single and Multiple EMG done to extremities and face (due to ptosis). The EMG showed proximal muscle weakness with diagnosis of Myopathy, therefore it did not reveal MG. My MG symptoms are what you will read in a textbook but the right sided weakness with tightening and occasional spastic leg muscle does not seem to match MG which has my neurologist confused. They don't think its stroke either. This weakness makes me walk weird and gets worst with more fatigue and exertion. I call this gait "the drunken penguin" on my right side. its not a walk that anyone misses.

I have a gait that is hard to miss too and really need a mobility devise. Most of my specialist think the autonomic involvement is due to an autoimmune disease of which they think I have more than one. Since taking cellcept, the profuse sweating only happens on the left side of my face. The right side of my face drops from MG. I must look a sight when you add the waddling gait. MG leaves us little dignity.
