PN in foot with bunion surgery

Hello! I developed peripheral neuropathy in both my feet due to an injury on the bottom of the feet. Now I need to have bunion surgery on one foot. I'm concerned about the nerves in that foot during surgery plus the snug bandage on my foot during recovery. Has anyone had this situation before or know anything about this? I'm planning on contacting my neurologist since my orthopedic surgeon has never run into this before.

I have one suggestion for you.

There is another type of neuropathy called RSD or CRPS ...it is a sympathetic nerve inflammation that follows surgery or trauma and is most common in the foot and wrist.

In Europe there were a few studies showing that RSD may be PREVENTED when surgery is done on the foot or wrist by using Vitamin C daily for at least 50 days. Some studies used 500mg a day and some 1000mg a day.

This is one example of a study:

We have a separate forum here for RSD... but with your PN history I'd seriously consider doing the Vit C prevention.
No guarantees, but even though RSD is not as common as PN, it is an awful thing to have and often for life. (and far more painful).

Thanks for the info! I read that study plus did further research online. My symptoms are more similar to diabetic neuropathy but I'm interested in the Vit. C prevention. Do you think they mean take it for 50 days before the surgery or at any time around it?

I believe for best results you start just before
and continue for at least 50 days.

VitC is an antioxidant and lowers inflammation .

Great! I'll give it a try!
