new here/ have question/post concussion behavior

Hi there! I'm new here and wanted to inquire about an event that happened last night. My boyfriend tripped on a cord and hit his head on the edge of a wood table. He got a little gash and some swelling and i'm fairly sure he suffered a mild concussion as he has the general symptoms ie: dizziness, slowed and slurred speech, balance problems, etc. However, he also had a strange behavioral symptom. He would frequently leave my bedroom and when he came back in he would rearrange or "organize" items in my room. He would make little piles of items in various areas of my room and take one item and move it to a different area of the room for seemingly no reason. I'm pretty sure he also "hid" several innocuous objects in different places around the room. This was completely uncharacteristic behavior for him and i asked him why he was doing it he wasn't able to vocalize any sensible reason and later when i asked what he was thinking when he was doing it he said "nothing" I'm not concerned so much as curious if anyone has ever experienced something similar or could possibly offer some insight into why he behaved this way. Also I wrote virtually the same post earlier but have yet to see it show up on the forum so i rewrote it and will feel kinda silly if basically the same post shows up twice but I'm not familiar with posting on forums and am not even sure if i'm posting in the write section, therefore i apologize for possible multiple posts in the wrong section.

worried

Ok guys now I'm worried. It's been probably close to 2 days since the incident. Not only have his cognitive functions improved at all but he has been crying pretty consistently for the past 24 hours. I tried to talk him into going to the walk in clinic but he says the last time he had one and went to the ER they told him that there was nothing they could do for him and that he should just go home and sleep so now he refuses to go. I'm not really sure what to do at this point...

A H,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.
It sure sounds like he should be examined by a doctor. His behavior sounds too odd. Is he having head aches ?

concussion specialist?

Hi there

Can you take him either to a doctor or a concussion specialist? His behavior is a concern and even if the ER says there is nothing they can do for him, try again with other medical people.

So sorry for your struggles.

Please encourage him to see a concussion clinic doctor. I too cried virtually non-stop after my concussion, but my depression/anxiety started about a week later. Not so sure about the other aberrant behavior, but you should definitely ask the doctor. If he caused damage to his frontal lobe that might indicate changes in executive function and decision making.

I agree he needs to be seen by a doctor or the ER just to make sure there is no damage and then to a concussion specialist. He might agree to that especially if you tell him that they see people with this type of symptoms regularly, they wont laugh or think him odd.

Maybe let him read some of our posts here........might just convince him.
Good luck I hope you convince him to get help!

Take him to the ER and get a CT!
This is not a joking or light matter, there could be bleeding on his brain or something else wrong.
We may have lots of experience with lots issues, but that is after the doc makes sure there is nothing life-threatening or anything wrong that the doctors could fix.
If he says no, find a way to just make him go there, it could be something that will save his life, or it could be nothing.
In Christ,
Margarite
