New Study: Inhaled Cannabis Mitigates Parkinson’s Disease Sy

For fans of medical MJ:

Inhaling whole-plant cannabis provides symptomatic relief in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD), according to observational trial data published in the March/April edition of the journal Clinical Neuropharmacology.

Investigators at Tel Aviv University, Department of Neurology evaluated Parkinson’s disease symptoms in 22 patients at baseline and 30-minutes after inhaling cannabis. Researchers reported that inhaled cannabis was associated with “significant improvement after treatment in tremor, rigidity, and bradykinsea (slowness of movement). There was also significant improvement of sleep and pain scores. No significant adverse effects of the drug were observed.”

They concluded: “[T]his observational study is the first to report an amelioration of both motor and non–motor symptoms in patients with PD treated with cannabis. The study opens new venues for treatment strategies in PD especially in patients refractory to current medications.”

I hope they assess symptomatic relief from cannabis by different delivery methods as well though the problem here may be the drug not the delivery method.

Doesn't mention whether they used the sativa or the indica types. Or whether it matters.

.

I do remember when this study came out last year there were two issues that needed clarity: determining if there was an actual causal relationship; and the fact that all but one of the patients were tobacco smokers also (which are actually related issues).

Nevertheless, there's always something to deal with..... the choices PwP have to make never seem easy..... I'm not at that point yet, but I would imagine if one's symptoms become bad enough, treatment decisions involving risk of some sort have to be made.

Just yesterday I renewed my authorization to use MM for PD. The doctor couldn't find her file that named the most effective strains to use. She emailed me several sites to begin researching the best to use. This forum is a good place to start. Does any one know? I also need to figure out how to obtain the right strain once I know the best one to use.

The OP was about inhaling whole-plant cannabis. Not sure how to find that. It would not be possible for me to grow my own. Marijuana was legalized in my state last year but it will probably be another year or two before folks can start growing crops.

Living all my life in Canada's premier dope growing area & seeing friends and neighbors use/abuse the weed, its my opinion that the only thing it got rid of was thier ambition.
