My first AChR antibody test was Positive, 2nd one is Negative.
Can Mestinon affect whether or not your body produces AChR antibodies?
I had my first AChR antibody test in January 2014, it came back Positive and my Ocular-Neurologist diagnosed me with MG and gave me a prescription for Mestinon. Last month, I switched to another Neurologist who specialiazes in Neuro Muscular Disorders. She tested me for a bunch of other stuff Anti-CV2, Amphiphysin, Anti-Yo, Anti-Ho, Anti-Ri, MuSK, RyR, Titin, AChE, and --- AChR was one of the many on the list, so i got tested a second time by default. I was surprised I tested AChR antibody Negative this time. My head is spinning. |
Mark, Were both tests done at the same lab? That can make a difference.
Antibody levels fluctuate. And those levels do not reflect the severity of MG! What if your antibodies during that second test were too busy attacking your tissues (tissue bound antibodies) and there weren't enough circulating antibodies to show up on the test?! That's why MG is a clinical diagnosis backed up with tests! A negative doesn't prove anything. Don't sweat it! Annie |
The second blood test was taken at a different hospital and sent to a completely different lab.
