Pain in left eye and left side
 

Hello
Well i have been bothered with this pain for two years now
it becoming worse and worse now. it used two be periodic pain usually monthly , then became shorter and shorter and now its constant dull pain in my left eye all time and when it become severe my left eye really feels under pressure and pain goes to left side of my forehead and goes straight behind my head (as if you draw line from behind my eye to behind my head also i have to note that just very specific part of my forehead seems to be involved) and goes to my neck and last about 24 for hours and i have to take several pain killers to stop it then it gets better for about 48 hours then starts again around my left eye with same dull pain and take same course to full pain
I have gone to lots of neurologists and also took mri which showed nothing the medicines i tooks are
1- depakin
2 - topiramate
3 - indometacine
4 - fluoxetine

during this two years it never stopped i noticed even when i sleep it makes me woke up with very heavy pain even though when i have gone to bed the pain was just mild which show its not related to resting or fatigue
is this some kind of migraine or its something else ?
its really destroying my life

Have you looked into Trigeminal Neuralgia? Or have any of your neuros suggested this? If not look it up and look up Occipital Neuralgia while you are at it

I'd like to suggest you find a really good ophthalmologist, someone who has state of the art equipment who can see if you have an diseases or issues in or near your eye. I recently found a new eye doc and I am astounded at what he finds and how much he has helped me. I would also recommend a good pain mgmt doctor. I have found with neurologists, if it is not something blatantly showing on an MRI, or other test, they can be dismissive. Just my personal experience.

Just last week, I got a wicked headache and neck ache like I have never had before( I however do have a long history of chronic pain). I used to have classic migraines but these seemed different. I went to see my regular pain mgmt doc who did say they were a form of migraine possibly triggered by a cervical disc problem I have and I am scheduled for testimg next week. In the meantime, He put me on a combo of triptans for migraine, flexeril for muscle relaxer and anti flam called Zipsor, which was new to me. I had been suffering and was in bed for 4 days and this combo worked to dampen the pain so I was at least functional again. I do want to say that I also take Norco and Lyrica daily for chronic pain.

Are the docs giving you any dx at all? It is hard to suggest things not knowing. I guess the good news is, if you have had MRI's of your head, it is not a cyst or tumor or aneurysm.
There are do many things that could be causing it.

I am sorry you have not found relief and have been suffering so much. It is so frustrating and frightening when the pain endures and no answers are found. If the meds are helping, why not stay on them until a dx is found?

ophthalmic migraine
 

Hi amiralikhan, welcome.

A (nother) possibility is some type of ocular/ophthalmic/optical/retinal migraine, which may need a neuro-ophthalmologist or migraine specialist (not just a neurologist who says they can treat migraine) to determine/investigate. I mean a specialist whose practice is limited solely to headaches/migraines—there's a huge difference.

So in facts my pain still can be some type of migraine ?
Why is it so persistent and i have it all the time ? as i have read about migraines they do not tend to be so persistent and long term pains they come and goes and does not stand long
Will there be any cure for it hopefully ?

I would say it's possible that your pain is migraine-related. It could still be something else, or a combination of things.

There are many types of headache/migraine. Some are called "persistent" or "daily", and can either return every day, or be continuous for days/weeks/months.

persistent daily headache migraine

This is why I recommend/suggest a headache/migraine specialist. I had headaches (of a couple varieties) almost daily—some went on for weeks at a time. I went to several neurologists who said they could treat migraine and difficult headaches, but they really didn't know, and were (seemingly) using me as a lab rat/guinea pig. One day while seeing a different doctor on a completely different matter, he asked me if I had seen "the headache guy"—a local neurologist whose practice is just headaches & migraine—he doesn't do/treat anything else. It took several months to get an initial appointment with this doctor, but after hearing my story, he was able to diagnose the exact kind(s) of headaches I was having with just 3 questions. The headaches were/are still difficult to treat, but over the next year I went from having more than 15 headaches per month (the definition of "chronic headache") to less than 8 per month (average 6).

It's not a cure, but it's much better. Now I have medication that works, and I know what to do (and what to avoid).
