Trouble shooting
I have a monster headache today... would love to know what caused it... what did I do yesterday or last night that caused this? So I can prevent it in the future... anyone have any good tips on figuring this out?

Sarah,
Have you tried icing your upper neck ? If this helps, it could mean you did something to stress your upper neck. I have been having vaso-spasm mini head aches for the past day. They come and go within minutes. There is no understanding about what causes them. Head aches are a mystery to most. Even the specialists do not fully understand them. |
Thanks Mark!
I will try icing... I know my upper neck is messed, per chiro and osteopath, up and I try to keep it loose so maybe some ice will help too... thanks!
I am not a fan of drugs in general but in this case I wish there was one that would just make it go away... I can deal with pain pretty well but headache pain is the WORST! |
If your neck is injured, you should be icing it before and after any treatments plus on a regular schedule as possible. Reducing inflammation is key to allowing your neck to heal. You also need to adopt disciplined posture behaviors to reduce any stresses. It takes a few months of disciplined care for the ligaments to heal and tighten so they properly support and align your vertebra.
Some chiros are too aggressive. They may aggravate the injury as much as they help it. A gentle approach is usually best. |
Icing helps a bit but the headaches are getting worse... any thoughts Mark?

When my head aches got to their worst, I would find a comfortable position in my recliner with the ice pack, I'd have some acetaminophen and aspirin on board then listen/watch something to focus my attention away from the pain. It often helped to close my eyes. Closing my eyes could make a big improvement.
This means you would need to be free from other responsibilities. Not possible for everyone, such as a mom who needs to be taking care of children and a household. I wish I had more solutions. My best to you. |
My boys (5,3) go to daycare since I am normally working so that is exactly what i did... ice pack, recliner, tylenol, and a movie... closed my eyes about 20 minutes in... it is better but not gone.. thanks Mark!

Yes, my protocol does not usually end the head ache. It hopefully just makes them more tolerable. With the head ache pain reduced, I can slowly start moving again.
