Question for Mrs. D: Transitioning from Gabapentin to Lyrica

Ms D:

A friend is slowing tapering down on Gapapentin and wants to transition to Lyrica, and is currently at 700mg of Gabapentin daily.

What is the proper way to make the switch?

Thanks!

David

We have a sample taper in the SubForum here:

Nide44's doctor at Hopkins gave him the taper that appears in this post. From a higher dose Neurontin than you state. But people are different, and may require another type of taper:

700mg a day of Neurontin is not a very high dose as Neurontin goes. Alot also depends on how long that person used it at that level.

Nide's taper is only a SAMPLE... so keep that in mind.
It worked for HIM.

Lyrica is very similar to Neurontin, so a taper may not be needed much at all. In the end it is the doctor's choice as to how to do it.

You might Google Neurontin taper, for other examples.

Nice to meet you...it's weird that I just posted a new thread because I've been switched also...just last Monday.....the neuro told me to not take my gaba that night and to take a 75 mg lyrica instead. No tapering down since he said they are so closely related. I've had a crappy week but know I need to stay on the lyrica for another week to see if these feelings and pain can level themselves out.

Good luck to your friend :)
