Total Eclipse - Late Monday / Early Tuesday
'Blood moon' will be a sight to behold during total lunar eclipse
http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/11/tech/i...on/blood-moon/ The picture of the eclipse on this link is fantastic -- almost from sci fi. Quote:

I think we're going to be reasonably lucky here with the timing. The moon is rising from the East just as the Sun is setting in the west although I have a feeling the moon will be partially in shadow as it rises.
So... it'll be approx 5.25pm to 5.30pm today MY TIME (which is Tuesday 15th) and we're near the beach so it'll rise over the ocean with nothing blocking the view. We've just had a cyclone/hurricane up north and it's made its way down the east coast now and out to sea. Today the sun is shining and it will probably stay that way for a good viewing this evening. I'm not sure if we'll be able to go see it though as I have a blown car headlight and I've tried and tried to take the darn thing apart from inside the engine but I can't get the bolts off. I'll see how I go. If we do go I'll get my daughter to take a photo or two. So annoying with the headlight though. Considering it's a legal issue, you'd think they'd make it more simple to replace the bulbs. :) |

Lara, Good luck with the car. I hope that you do get a picture. :) M |
the clouds cleared
I hope to go to bed before the eclipse.

Did you get to see the eclipse, Mari?
I saw this in time, and was up, but the event wasn't visible from my location. :( Oh well. |

Waves, \~/ :=) I believe I saw part of it. This is what I saw. http://wordlesstech.com/2011/01/02/s...-on-january-4/ I have been stepping outside every hour or so. I saw half of the eclipse but I have two commitments Tues and prolly should brush my teeth and lie down to sleep. M |
5.04pm here.
sun sets at 5:31PM and moonrise is 5.26PM Max eclipse is 5.46PM then it goes on until penumbral eclipse at 8.36PM Sadly I couldn't get my lights fixed and I'm not driving with only one headlight. I'll be watching it on the tv or the computer I suppose. Real shame too as it's a glorious evening for a change. |
6.26PM
So we decided to go for a drive down to the beach in the twilight and hope to get back home before it got dark. It's like New Year's Eve out there. We went to 4 different beaches and every man, woman, child and their dogs must be out there. :) Absolutely no parking. So we've come home but from the backyard here we can see it now. Above the red Moon is a really red Mars and also Jupiter (I think it's Jupiter). The 2 planets and the Moon all really close together. It's quite breathtaking. My daughter tried to take a photo on her iphone but it's pretty useless as one can only see tiny dots off in the distance. Very disappointing as her good camera is not working. Anyway, I'm hopping back and forth from the kitchen to the yard to join all the mosquitoes now. Just wanted to talk about it here. :grouphug: |
Lara,
Thanks for that. We have a lot of light pollution and I only saw the first half of the eclipse because it was late and I had to get to bed. I noticed the "dot" and figured it was a planet but could not identify it. Perhaps it was Mars. It is o.k. if the pictures did not come out. Your experience itself was meaningful. :) Mari |
