Hereditary Neurapathy

I visited with my Mom this afternoon, wanted to ask her about the families, if they also had PN. Turns out, my Mom and Dad had it, my Aunt on my Dads side, my great grandfather on my Dad's side, and my grandfather on my Mom's side! Boy did I score the gene pool! Burning foot and hand pain with my mom, but she also is experiencing Electric shock pain all over, sound like mainly sensory nerves. My Dad had more of the motor nerve damage, but also sensory.
My great grandfather on my Dad's side was the son of Heber C Kimball, who was the vice President of LDS, and helped found Utah, he had leg problems from early age, but never got the DNA testing... ;o)
Seems kind of like a slam dunk for Hereditary Neuropathy. I will have plenty of evidence for the Neurologist next month when I see him...

My mom has a different twist, she said the the numbness is on the tops of her feet, instead of the bottom! It could be that her neuropathy comes for Pre diabetes, and my Dads side is Herditary CMT. I wonder if it is possible to have both forms from each line?

Yes, people with CMT can have other diseases which affect the nerves. (diabetes, thyroid disease, poisoning by drugs or heavy metals or toxins, bone marrow disorders, nutritional deficiencies).

If it is CMT it sounds like it is from you Father's side. You can have any other kind of disease or whatever as well as having CMT.

Yes, it is a challenge, with Pre diabetes, hypothyroidism, and a history of nutritional deffeincies... I think I am doing quite well considering...

Yes, that would make sense, though I have been spared the motor sensory nerve damage so far. I have very good balance, but a weakness in the calf muscles... My father had a much higher arch, with hammer toes, and a lot of pain. Hopefully I will be spared some of it!

Time will tell.

It would be nice. But for CMT it is a long row to hoe. Maybe one day.
