PCS symptoms are bad after starting new job
My current condition is not much different than the initial couple of weeks of my injury in December 2013. Maximum capacity of any light physical activity like, grocery shopping, some house hold work is 30 mins, I feel dizzy, fatigued and feel that I don't have any strength in my legs, a feeling similar to just before passing out and headaches.
My progress is following down since I started new job two months back, worked full time for two weeks and then had to reduced it to 4 hrs /day. In general we try to push our self to finish the task at work. I love my job but with this rate of improvement I am not very hopeful about my health. Do you think I am pushing more than I am suppose to? I might have to take break from work for couple of months, I am desperate to get batter. Please help. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ My story if you are interested: I had general anesthesia for my 3 wisdom teeth extraction. After taking rest for 5-6 hours, I did kitchen chores for 15-20 mins. I felt dizzy and fell head first on tile floor on one side from the stool. I was unconscious for 3-4 minutes and did not feel the cuts which I got from the broke bowl which was in my hand. We rushed to the emergency as those cuts were too big to be taken care at home. I had one of the worst headaches in my life even though I was on strong painkillers for my teeth extraction. Today its almost 4 months for my Concussion, my major issues are headaches, fatigue, dizziness and some memory issues. I am fatigued and dizzy even after 45 mins of normal physical activity (getting ready for office, cooking, shopping) |
I get the "feeling similar to just before passing out" when I overdo things. That is my warning signal to stop what I'm doing and rest immediately. Like you, I also get very tired while grocery shopping or doing chores around the home. If you happen to find out what that feeling is called, please tell me. I would like to read more about it.
It does sound to me like you're overdoing things, but I don't know if it would help you heal any faster if you stopped. My injury also took place in December, so I think that maybe we are both trying to do too much too soon? My doctor said at this point in my recovery, he doesn't feel like it will do more damage to my brain if I try to push through the symptoms (as opposed to in the very beginning, when I was told not to text, use the computer, etc.). Reading the posts on here from other folks with PCS makes me think that maybe pushing through symptoms isn't the best idea, though, so I usually don't. I understand that working might be something that you HAVE to do. I am currently in that position, as I am out of money and can't pay my bills unless I keep working. I am only working part-time right now, but I put in a full-time day a couple weeks ago. It took me one week to recover from that 8-hour day, and that was the only day that I worked that week. My advice is that, if you must work, try to rest as much as you can when you're not working. Eat cheese and crackers for dinner if you have to, or let the laundry sit in the dryer instead of immediately putting it away. Close your eyes a lot when you are at the computer. Set a timer so that you remember to rest for a few minutes throughout your workday. |
Good to know that some one knows what type of dizziness I have :)
I went for first physical therapy yesterday. Therapist thinks that I have tightness in my neck so It might be related to whiplash. I can see some light of hope. I was wondering if there are any other diagnostic measures for neck injury out there. I will contact my neuro about the same. |
