Live in NY?
Does anybody live in NYC with there ssdi? Im considering moving, but I know where im at now I cant afford an apartment let alone a place that's more high end. Would the SSDI change to accommodate your living situation?

I do not live in NY, but I believe SSDI benefits are based solely upon your past income and has nothing to do with your locality.
Your benefits would be the same no matter where you live in the US as I understand it. |

Your SSDI benefits could buy you a much higher standard of living in most all other cities or towns in the US. |

you might search for affordable cities for limited income -

NYC has one of the highest cost of livings in the USA. Your money will go further almost anywhere else.

And maybe Tos8's friends, relatives, support system, doctors etc are here. Especially when you are disabled and have medical problems just picking up and going is not so easy or simple.

I took her initial post as to mean that she was considering moving to NYC, not that she was already there and contemplating moving away.
I know that remaining close to my support systems is a concern when I consider where my next home will be (impending divorce necessitates a change), so I understand that moving to a lower CLA might make financial good sense, but could still be the wrong choice for many of us if it meant leaving a good support system. |
i took it to mean she lived already in nyc, cant afford where she lives now and has to move and wants to move within Nyc. Re reading it you could be right though andi could be wrong.

As most people have said, I would not worry so much about that as I would worry about going through the process itself. If you are currently living somewhere more affordable, it would be a better idea to live there unless you want to spend more on rent each month (thus lowering your overall SSDI intake.
