Best Vitamin D?

Not satisfied at all with my current Vit. D supplement. Nature's Bounty 1000 IU. Anyone have a particularly good experience with another? Thanks!

What's wrong with it/what are your expectations?
How long have you been taking it?

I use to get any brand of gel D3, but I went to a nutritionist for a few appointments and she recommended Jarrow Brand. Honestly, I'm not sure if it is necessary, but I've always heard very good things about this brand and my health has been so complicated of late, for now I'm getting the Jarrow Brand.

I know there are certifications for vitamins that you can look for on the label.

Years ago I was shocked when Dr Oz had a scientist on the show who said that he tested many, many fish oil brands and only found two (maybe three) to be pure as well as accurate in their labeling. One was Life Extension. It got me thinking...in many cases, not all vitamins are the same.

Have you had your vitamin D tested? No doubt one of the most important vitamins to keep optimized. You might need more; hard to say. Perhaps this is what you feel. ???? If you haven't done so already, consider talking with your doctor about testing your D levels.

Vitamins are different than other kinds of supplements in that most vitamins are a single chemical substance, while something like fish oil contains many different chemical substances. Fish oil may come from a single species of fish, but individuals in that species may have differences—like blood donations from many people. Fish oil may also come from a variety of species. This is one of the major hurdles with whole-plant medical cannabis, which contains hundreds of substances vs. single extracts, as in Sativex or Marinol.

Vitamin D is a group of substances, but vitamin D3 is just one single substance—cholecalciferol (a.k.a. toxiferol).

It's much easier to control the quality/purity of a single substance than a complex product like a whole plant/herb or fish oil that may come from a multitude of sources.

Hello likealamb,

Be sure you are getting blood work done to see what you vitamin D level is. If you are deficient I would suggest getting your D level re-checked about every 6 months and increasing/decreasing your intake as needed.

I use NOW brand and have been quite pleased with the results. In my case I was/am deficient. I started taking 5000iu of NOW D3 and it took me approximately a year and a half to get my level where my Neurologist wanted it.

At that point we decided I should drop down to 2000iu. Well, in less than 6 months my level again dropped to deficient. I am now taking 4000iu and my levels are again starting to rise.

Hope that helps!
