MRI in a few days but what do you think?
My doctor has ordered an MRI to "rule out MS", she said along with "this all makes sense now". At first I really thought it might MG because of my droopy eyelid that comes and goes, but that test came back negative. Actually I really thought all my sx's were originally low thyroid.....the fatigue, lack of focus, headaches, dry skin, hair loss, inability to lose weight, etc. Dr. cleared that too.
From what I've read MS can be different for everyone, but I was wondering if anyone with MS has or has had any of this... - I call stingers - real quick electric shots that come out of no where, hit different spots - feeling like something is crawling on you, again last only a few seconds - blue feet? - when sitting, my feet sometimes are real cold feeling and will turn bluish-purple - if I rub them the coloring comes back - eyelid drooping - comes & goes - heavy or numb legs that goes away in a few hours? - jaw aches after a few minutes of chewy food? - nerve pain seems more on one side- left side have sciatic nerve pain, shoulder pitched nerve, eyelid drooping The fact my Dr. mentioned MS has me a little scared. Would like to hear if anyone else has / had these symptoms before or since being dx with MS? Thanks for your help!! |

process of elimination. Let us know how it goes. |
I have your symptoms #1 and 2 all the time. But like Sally said they can also be other things. Diagnosing MS is often a process of eliminating other things. Good luck and come back often to let us know how you are doing. When is your MRI scheduled? If you ask advice here, you will get as many opinions as the number of people who respond. Everyone has a different opinion. I have never had a problem with mine. One time when I was in the hospital I had something like 8 MRIs and it did get kind of tedious. Also If you get to the stage they want to do a spinal tap you will get many opinions. I have had 3 and they were all fine. All of our bodies are made different and all of our MS's are different.

I hope all goes well with your MRI.
I get zaps but mostly just in my ribs when the MS hug is behaving badly. Nerve pain goes right a long with the hug for me. I also get nerve pain in my legs quite often and it causes muscle spasms for me. I usually get the nerve pain and then the intense spasms follow shortly. I do have spasticity throughout the day to varying degrees. I have the crawling feeling but it lasts more than a few seconds. My feet do not get blue nor are my eyelids drooping. My legs do feel heavy and sometimes numb, but again, mine last longer than a few hours. I can go days without that feeling and then days with that feeling. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the severity of it such as doing too much, heat, etc. My jaw doesn't hurt after chewing my food but I occasionally have trouble swallowing. I hope that helps you out. I think others will come along and have different experiences than I do based on your list. Let us know how things go for you. |
As others have said, it's a process of elimination...
I have almost all of the same symptoms, especially the electric shock pain in various parts of the body and tingling/numbness. Other things as well but it's an individual disease... Keep a symptom journal, eat right, get rest and some exercise. And most of all keep LIVING!! Try to enjoy each day the best that you can. Keep us up to date. There's a lot of info and support here. |
Thank you!
Thank you to all that replied. I go back & forth with "I have it" and "I don't have it". The MRI is this Friday but it's at 4pm, so guessing I won't know anything until next week. I've felt pretty good this week. Today, my eyelid was really droopy and I had a headache behind it. I held it close with my finger (which wasn't hard to do) for an hour and with some headache meds. it seems better.
The whole reason I started going to the doctor was because of migraines. I don't see much talk about that on the symptoms list. I just keep telling myself whatever the issue is, we'll deal with it. Which sounds all good and fine except I'll admit I sometimes get really scared at the thought of it being MS. I lost my mom to lung cancer last year which was devastating, and with this recent health issue, I keep thinking of a quote I read somewhere that said, "What you do TODAY is Important, because you are EXCHANGING a Day of your Life for it". (sure makes you forget about doing the laundry all day;) Thank you all again. |
I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry about it too much. Just take it one step at a time. Are you keeping a journal of your symptoms? If not, it might be a good idea to do so as it will help in the diagnosing process.
I have only had an occular migraine twice in my life. They kind of freak me out but I know what they are and they can be pretty entertaining. I get the kind with no headache just lots of jagged lines (black & white and colors). They each lasted about 20 minutes or so and resolved. Hang in there, Elle! Let us know how your MRI goes and the results. |
Well it's over....the MRI at least. I had it last night at 9:30pm, never imagined they would be doing them that late. But it was the way to hopefully get the results back before the holiday weekend. And man let me say those are pretty un-nerving!! I had one years ago for my knee which was no big deal but this was test of my mediation skills. I felt like it was some torture device.... buried alive with crazy loud non-stop noises for over an hour. I had really wished I had opted for some relaxing meds. I won't make that mistake again.
So now just wait and see. I really feel like will be clear....maybe denial... but like to think it is positive thinking. Last night I played the powerball lottery too and joked if I could "win" one thing a clear MRI or the money which would people pick? I sure appreciate the support I have received from so many kind people here, it really does help! I'm glad things went well for you and hopefully you will have the results before the end of tomorrow. Please keep us posted on your results and how you are doing.
For some people MRIs are a walk in the park. For me, I go sedated. :D A full MRI takes a while. My last one was a brain, cervical spine, and thoracic spine all at one time. Thank goodness for Ativan!;) |
Results, even more confused
Well results are in, small spot right front. Dr said that white matter unusual for my age recommending neuro specialist and exam of spinal fluid. Dr. mention report mentions several times regarding that since it didn't involve contract can't be determined or something. Got the news at 5pm and I really couldn't think clearly to ask questions. I think I was a little shocked, cause even during the times I had trouble seeing or walking, I kept telling myself there are a million other reasons for this or it was all in my mind. Even as she was saying the results, I was rationalizing it as a mistake or something.
I really don't know what to think right now. I don't know how what to hope for...what is better for the "spot" to be? a tumor? MS? how about a fly on the scan, lol. Dr. said something about narrowing at the base of head/spine or something, I don't really remember. She said could be the cause of tingling in my arm. Not sure if she was saying like I need to see a chiropractor or does "narrowing" mean something self? I don't know! I don't know anything about any of this. world seems like it is spinning around me right now. Quote:
