Odd things happening
 

I thank you all for posting your experiences and I wondered if two odd conditions I am suffering could be anything to do with my CRPS.

I have had CRPS since shortly after an accident breaking my foot and ankle in three places late in November last year. It has definitely spread to my other leg and other conditions I suffer with such as Tendinitis, Peripheral Arterial Disease and Osteoarthritis have got much worse. It could of course, and I believe it is, be that these extra aches and pains are due to CRPS.

Anyway I have two new conditions and wonder if either could be because of CRPS.

Cramps in my neck, usually on the left side. This comes when I have a big yawn which stretches my jaw. The side of my neck goes solid and its extremely painful. Massaging relieves the condition slowly but then my neck hurts for ages.

Two nights ago I found a lump on the back of my head, just above my neck. It is hard and not painful and about the size of a one pound coin (One inch in diameter). I have a doctors appointment tomorrow but thought would like to go with some knowledge if it is a known problem associated with CRPS. The GP I am going to tomorrow is a first for me and the chances of her knowing anything about CRPS is small.

Hi John, it doesn't sound like CRPS but you never know! You're doing the best thing by having your Doc check it out. Hope it turns out to be nothing worrisome. Be well ~ Lottie

Hi John,
I get that lump thing on the head just above the neck too. I was going to mention it to my neurologist at the next appointment coming up.
If it's related to CRPS I will for sure let everyone in here know.
I also have shrinking of my cerebellum going on so it's hard telling the cause right now.
But it is quit weird that someone else has it too!
So many things can be going on with me. I certainly don't need more...

I have found a doctor that says she knows what CRPS is but I haven't had the chance to test her knowledge yet really. She is difficult to get appointments with and a month wait is not apparently unusual.

She thinks the lump on my head is a cyst caused by a hair not coming through as it should and thinks it will get smaller in time, leave as is.

The yawning she doesn't know the answer to and she has given me quinine tablets to see it that helps, we will see.

I have regularly throughout my life found that yawning can cause cramping of neck, mouth and tongue. It can be excruciatingly painful, bring involuntary tears to my eyes and take quite a while to ease off. Its nothing to do with CRPS - just good old-fashioned cramp and nothing to worry about. I have severe movement disorders which all have fancy medical names with my 'CRPS package' so I know only too well how much CRPS can mess up the way your body's muscles work but the thing you are describing isn't CRPS related. Don't worry about it, just try to yawn carefully and with less gusto!

Thank you Neurochic, that's good news and I will take your advice and yawn with less gusto. I have learned how to do this now and am not being caught out anywhere near as much.

My physiotherapist tells me my knee is higher and my leg is longer than in the other one. She said it is not uncommon for this to happen after the sort of surgery I had. I broke my ankle in three places and had a plate and 6 pins and screws fitted.

Anyone heard of that before, I cant find it in the usual internet info places?
